hardcore clutch
a mixture of hardcore and thrash. it's hard to believe this is clutch when you listen to their new stuff, but this is what started it all for this great band. Every song rules, and is still one of my favorite clutch albums to this day.

What an excellent debut this is...
I went out and bought their 1993 debut album "Transnational Speedway League: Anthems, Anecdotes & Undeniable Truths" a couple months back, and I fell in love with it. I first heard Clutch when I heard a few songs including "Binge and Purge" (from the album that I'am reviewing at this moment) and "Escape From The Prison Planet" (from the 1995 self titled album) on Music Choice Metal sometime ago, and I quickly got into them afterwards. It has quickly become one of my favorite cds that I enjoy listening to since then. This is definately the most hardest, heaviest and most angriest album in Clutch's catalog, no questions asked. It simply rocks hard with lots of powerful grooves and aggressive slamming intensity, you just won't believe your ears when you listen to this. Every song on here is simply awesome. Frontman Neil Fallon's vocals are rough and very angry throughout here, and his lyrics are very intellegent and also hilarious as well. The guitar riffs by Tim Sult are really heavy, blistering and slamming yet very groovy as well, while bassist Dan Maines and drummer Jean Paul Gaster both provide an incredibly blistering rhythm section with awesome basslines by Maines and some fantastic drum work from Gaster. "A Shogun Named Marcus" is a fast aggressive opening cut that boasts cool rapid-fire vocals from Neil and heavy blistering riffs and pounding basslines and drums. "Binge and Purge" which makes fun of the usual metal "tough guy" posturing is my personal favorite song on here that starts off slow and addictingly heavy, but later gets into a really catchy, groovy mosh-crazy climax in the end. This is a perfect song to blow off some serious steam to especially after having a rough day at work. "12 Ounce Epilogue" is another one of my favorites that features a wicked bass intro along with aggressive grinding riffs, pounding drums and angry vocals from Neil to boot. Other songs I really like on here include "Walking in the Great Shining Path of Monster Trucks" which features some really catchy and funny lyrics like "Well I rolled Jesse Helms like a cigarrette and smoked him higher than the highest of the minarets, Jesse James couldn't even handle it, started looking at me like I was Sanskrit", as well as "El Jefe Speaks", "Earthworm", "Milk of Human Kindness", "Bacchanal" and "Effigy" which is slow and dirgy but very heavy and catchy throughout with great crunching riffs and awesome vocals from Neil to boot. I seriously don't even find one bad song on here, they're all great so there's really no skipping needed. Anyways, if you're looking from some solid straight up, no gimmicks, no nonsense hard rock/metal, then by all means you'll really like this album. Highly recommended for all Clutch fans.
