One of Cocker's Best Recent Albums
There are stellar, brilliant covers of such songs as "One Night of Sin", an altered take on Elvis Presley's "One Night With You", and "Fever", but Charlie Midnight pens a number of tunes on the album, and none better than "Just to Keep From Drowning". For those who have thought that Cocker has retreated into more and more MOR type pop, this album is quite a hard driving antedote to that thought. Midnight was also penning at the same time for James Brown, one of Cocker's idols. "Just to Keep From Drowning" could have been a JB tune and Cocker delivers it with the force and gusto that JB would be proud of. This is one of Cocker's great albums.

BTW, the UK LP version of this album has a different performance of "When the Night Comes" than was a hit in the US.

Passionate but clear, rocking blues-y indescribable
Cocker's rough voice is yet clear and sometimes tender as he performs the variously passionate, sad, and fun songs on this album. One of those few albums that one listens to more rather than less over the years. Listen to the clips and decide for yourself. Me, I'm going to see what else he's got out there.

Soul Refresher
Top notch ballads and rockers!. Joe turns in fine performances on each and every track, making this release a soul refresher.

great!
If your a cocker fan you will love this cd. Joe is at his best on this cd!! Its not very often you buy a cd where every song is good this is one of thoes cd's.

Full of Cocker rockers and ballads.
The top ten smash "When The Night Comes" is just the beginning of an album loaded with top notch songs. Joe Cocker's "One Night Of Sin" was not only one of Joe's more popular modern day albums but showed the english soul shouter in fine vintage form with his voice as strong as ever. Producer Charlie Midnight really gets Joe rocking on tunes like"Just To Keep From Drowning" and "Bad Bad Sign"[not to many modern day singers can match this vocal performance]. Long time musical friend Chris Stainton is back on keyboards providing that hard driving piano sound that was so prominent during their Maddogs and Englishman heyday. Joe also belts out great covers of "Fever" and "Iv'e Got To Use My Imagination". The ballads on this cd are sung in typical gut wrenching Joe cocker style. A truly solid musical effort not to be missed.
