Major Disappointment The Armadillo cuts on this are vastly inferior to the ones on the album "Life From Deep in the Heart of Texas. A very, very disappointing production. " Stick with the original. The Port Chester concert from '75 is somewhat better with a few curiousities, but again it's a disappointment.
Recycling Plus.
(The music of this live performance is from the same show that yielded the classic LIVE FROM THE ARMADILLO WORLD HEADQUARTERS disc, 1973). Yet another configuration of Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen!
The first disc, with fine sound quality, is most of the older SLEAZY ROADSIDE STORIES CD, this time with 3 less titles than the original, but with 5 "bonus tracks" which do not have quite the same sound quality. The second disc in the set has some quite awful sound quality, recorded live in Port Chester, NY. If you're willing to adjust your ears and plow through the entire performance (again, mostly the same songs you've already heard), what you find is a band at their peak. VERY tight playing, excellent soloing, and most of the songs are taken a good deal faster than usual, making it all the more amazing. Is it worth purchasing? If you don't have SLEAZY ROADSIDE STORIES, yes. If you do, then it's a matter of whether or not you can deal with inferior sound quality. If not, skip it. If, on the other hand, you're a collector or you really just want to hear the music, then it's worth getting at a single disc price.
