Misleading description The original album has 20 songs and so does this one. Do not buy this copy of Get Happy! if you are expecting to get all of the songs listed above. The extra 11 songs listed above are not on this version of the album. I returned the cd and bought another one.
my favorite Elvis record
It's Elvis at his best: sharp, witty, "wound up yet off-hand" (as he put it himself). I love this record.
I realize this isn't really his best album -- This Year's Model, My Aim Is True, and Imperial Bedroom are -- but it's my favorite for its sense of fun. Not a serious song on here. Just 20 action-packed, catchy, witty mini-masterpieces. How can you not love it?
For my money, I'll go with Motel Matches and 5ive Gears In Reverse as the best songs on here, but they're all good.
The beginning of the end really
OK I was dumb but maybe not so much. At first for a long time i did not buy it because it had the pseudo-damaged sleeve. This was the period when Costello started to take himself way too seriously, and which unfortunately has not ended. What a great talent went wasted.
pound for pound, best value!
I can say with confidence that I have accumulated quite a collection of lps\cds in my 36 years on this planet. I have been listening\collecting music for about 20 years now. One more thing, I am not going to say that this is the best record ever made, but if there is a better one, I would love to here it. The original lp had 20 great songs on it. The ryko reissue added 10 more great songs,(not outtakes or demos. 10 more great songs)! Now there is a double disk set that adds even more. Any way you go, this is the best cd value for the money you will ever find. They absoutely dont make records like this anymore. These days you are lucky if you get 3 good songs on a cd. Here you get 30!.
EC Was God
I first heard it in 1983, and continue to be inspired and surprised by both lyrics and music. Hands down the best EC/Attractions album ever. If you are a songwriter or aspiring recording artist, you should study this masterpiece. And extra credit to those who can fathom the meter changes in "B Movie". .
