Superior Sonic Scenery
It is so atypical that I found myself reading along with the lyrics just so I would fully understand the stories. What sets this album apart from the pack?

First, the subject matter of the songs. This is creative writing at it's best.

Second, the music is superbly written, performed and recorded. There isn't anything out of place here. Even the weird sounds are right, given the overall atmosphere of this album.

Third, it is vastly different than the first album, this being the second. And that shows a depth and breadth of creativity lacking in so many bands that are good at only one thing, which the retread album after album. . . god! enough already. More of this stuff please!!

This album does not suffer the sophomore syndrome so many second efforts experience. Here's why they usually fall flat:

Record companies want the best material a band has written for their first album. Okay. But all that great music took anywhere from two to five years to write. It's easy to pick the ten best tunes out of five years' writings.

So when the second album comes time to record, the record company asks for new material. The band isn't encouraged to use anything "left over" from the pickings of the first album. Golly, nine to twelve months to write great stuff - and a good number of those months have had the band on the road performing as followup to the release of their first album. When did they have time to write? They often don't.

So, a couple months of brainstorming to come up with the material for the second album. . . and now you know why so many second albums don't sound so good unless there is a couple years between first and second releases.

Only some of the most creative people can produce new music in a few months that rivals or betters the first/previous effort. Crash Test Dummies succeeds admirably.

A Relaxing 90's Alt Rock Album
Every song is delivered well with good guitars, drums, synth sounds, and of course, Brad's deep voice. Crash Test Dummies was known for their single "MMM MMM MMM MMM" but anyone who just loves relaxing, 90's alternative rock will greatly appreciate the works of "God Shuffled His Feet". From the start, you'll feel relaxed as you're painted a picture of friends and family sitting in a garden with God and dwelling in His presence. It's much better than smoking a cigarette to relieve stress.

Most of the songs are corney, but are just fun to listen to. "Afternoons & Coffeespoons" is a fast beat song about being an old person in a hospital. One song is a sort of love song called "Swimming in Your Ocean" but it's not a love song you'd sing to your loved one. Well, unless you wanted a baby but I don't think it would work. Overall, it's a weird alternative 90's album and if you're familiar with the lyrics of "MMM MMM MMM MMM" then you know what you're getting into. Most of the songs fit very well in this album and is probably one of my favorite albums from back in the day.

Great songs to try out to see if you'll like it would be "MMM MMM MMM MMM", "Afternoons & Coffespoons", and "God Shuffled His Feet". You won't regret it!.


Rock Virtuosos at their Best
While most professors of music history immediately recognized that we were in the presence of greatness akin to Mozart or Jimi Hendrix, or some awesome amalgamation of the two, others dismissed the Dummies as a cheap novelty. When 'God Shuffled his Feet' hit the streets back in '93, many people did not know what to make of it. Those 'others' were quickly told to put their jug of fortified wine down and to hit the rock library to do some research, and many of them did. Anyway, this album has it all, with the full compliment of the Dummies rock arsenal on display, declaring a swift, just and glorious war on your eardrums. 'Mmm Mmm Mmm' is so good that it actually defies words, so I'll leave it at that. Add that to the fact that the cover art is widely regarded as a brilliant neo-impressionist work, and you have perhaps the most impressive all-around work of art ever produced, by anyone, period.


90's classic
We had forgot how good many of the other songs were. We bought (well, rebought) this album after album remembering the title song was good. It's really a good album if you haven't heard it before. As I recall, the follow up album to this one was not good.


Love this band
I absolutely fell in love with Brad's voice. My brother Greg introduced me to the Crash Test Dummies when this album came out. I bought the tape right away and wore it out. I love all the songs but my favorite has to be
"Two knights and maidens". Some people might not like the lyrics to some of the songs, it's not for everyone. I listen to his beautiful voice, that's the main reason why I love this CD.
