Whatever you think of the hits, THIS was the ALBUM. They could do no wrong, they were American originals. I'm one of those people who enjoyed Creedence front to back. That said. . .
. . . Cosmo's Factory is an album, an experience, in the same way that Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Remastered) is an experience and Tommy is an experience. No, it's not a "rock opera," and it's not a "concept album. " The only concept here is good music, written well and performed with fire. You don't buy this one to get "one or two good songs," because they're ALL heavy hitters. All killer, no filler. The bonus tracks are great, but the album is a must-have, with or without them.
It's not even worth doing a track-by-track review, because every one is a winner. Let's just say that Fogerty is one of the FEW performers to tackle a Motown song, turn it inside out, and emerge a winner (all 11 ferocious minutes of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine". . . tough, bluesy, swampy). "Ramble Tamble" continues the "Hellhound On My Trail" sense of blues foreboding, while EVERY other track. . . EVERY single one. . . found its way onto FM radio airwaves when the original album was released.
It's mighty, it's beautiful, it's a cherished relic from the time capsule that has not diminished a BIT with age. Stop reading this and buy your copy NOW.
Their best original album - a true classic
On this album, you can find several classic songs. With this, their fifth album, Creedence Clearwater Revival delivered their last utterly great album as a group, although John Fogerty later recorded some great solo albums.
My favorite here is Looking out my back door. It is a great song anyway but its reference to Buck Owens adds further to my listening pleasure. John Fogerty later confirmed his enthusiasm for country music, implied by that reference, when he recorded Blue ridge rangers, an album of country classics. By contrast Looking out my back door is a typical slice of rocking Creedence Clearwater Revival, albeit with just a hint of country.
Other Creedence Clearwater Revival classics to be found here include Traveling band, Up around the bend, Who'll stop the rain and Long as I can see the light. I also like their interpretation of I heard it through the grapevine, but I don't think it really needed to be eleven minutes long. Creedence Clearwater Revival also show how well they could cover other people's songs with their brilliant versions of Ooby dooby and My baby left me. The first two tracks (Ramble tamble, Before you accuse me) are also of a high quality, but here they seem just like the warm-up act for what follows. On some albums, they would have been the highlights.
Many of these tracks have (not surprisingly) featured on Creedence Clearwater Revival compilations down the years, so if you've got one of those, you may not feel the need to buy this album. If, however, you buy it anyway, you're unlikely to be disappointed. If you haven't got any Creedence Clearwater Revival music, this album will provide a great start to your collection.
More recently, this album has been re-issued with bonus tracks, making it even better value.
A True Classic
I still have the album because I can't sell it. This was the first Creedence album that I ever bought many years ago. It was worn out from constant play during my teenage party years. The album is a collection of Creedence classics and great covers of well know songs. The long play cover of Grapevine is one of their best covers. If you are a classic rock fan then you need to get a copy of this CD.
VERY SATISFIED
I PLAYED IT SO MUCH
I WORE IT OUT. I BOUGHT THIS ALBUM WHEN IT WAS FIRST RELEASED IN 1970. I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO GET IT AGAIN FOR THE LAST COUPLE YEARS. I DIDN'T KNOW IF I COULD GET IT ON A CD, BUT I DID AND I LOVE IT.
I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE PRICE AND HOW SOON I RECEIVED IT. I HAVE OTHER
CCR CD'S BUT [COSMOS FACTORY]IS THE ONLY ONE WITH THE SONG [RAMBLE TAMBLE]
ON IT,WHICH IS THE MAIN REASON I WANTED IT. I DON'T BELIEVE IT WAS ONE OF
THEIR BIG HITS,BUT IT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. THE MUSIC IS JUST AWESOME!!.
Great Great Album
The best version of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" that was ever made. Simply put - this is an excellent album. .
