36 All-Time Greatest Hits ~ Creedence Clearwater Revival
I am more partial to the Roling Stones and the Beatles. CCR is not my favorite rock band or 60's band by a long shot. Still one can not deny that this rock band was loaded with tallented musicians and good if wordy lyrics. The vocals are not as good as either the Stones or Beatles either. Yet with tracks such as Proud Mary, Suzie Q and many others they manage to write lyrics that are well written if a bit verbose. The cover art looks a bit cheap and the photos are a bit blurred like they have either been shot to make an artistic statement or shot by some of the bands friends since as mentioned they look blurred. The text in the book-let is very well written and makes for a good story. However, there are no lyrics and no list of instruments used with is a not good at all. Still, this is a very nice compilation of a very good 60's rock band. .

Why bother with the Chronicle albums when you can get this?

Some of the tracks you'll find here are: Proud Mary, Born On The Bayou, Bad Moon Rising, Who'll Stop The Rain, Have You Ever Seen The Rain, Looking Out My Back Door, Green River, Down On The Corner, Up Around The Bend, I Put A Spell On You, Travelin' Band, Susie Q, Run Through The Jungle, I Heard It Through The Grapevine and Fortunate Son. 36 tracks on 3 cds, with just about every hit single represented. Every one of these tracks is a radio hit, so this isn't one of those "Best of. . . except for" collections, these are the songs that everyone knows and wants!

Some other favorites of mine that show up on this set: Bootleg (always one of my 3 favorite CCR songs), Hey Tonight, Cross-Tie Walker, Molina, Penthouse Pauper, The Midnight Special, Commotion and Tombstone Shadow. CCR has always been regarded as a "singles" band, but to me, they could have all been singles. I've heard just about everything they ever did, when I had most of their albums on casette as a kid, and I have fond memories of them all. Probably the only tracks missing here for me are Ramble Tamble and 99 1/2 Won't Do, but this has pretty much all the CCR a casual fan could ever need. You can pay approximately 14-20 dollars each for the 2 Chronicle volumes, or get pretty much all of it here for around 20 dollars or less.

I even matched up the sound quality with my dad's copy of Chronicle volume 1, and this set came out the louder and clearer of the two. Thumbs up.
