Among Crow's best but on the mellow side But I'd rank this among her best because the songs are excellent, and her voice is in TOP form. Wildflower is a softer, less edgy record compared to Tuesday Night or her self titled efforts. There are a couple of semi-rockers on here, like the anthemesque Live It Up, or the almost-upbeat Good Is Good. Some real strengths on this CD are the Neil Young inspired opener I Know Why, and two tracks that sound like they could be off Zeppelin III or IV - Chances Are and the title track. There isn't a bad song at all on this, but Letter To God is a major highlight. My other favorites include Lifetimes and Where Has All the Love Gone.
The deluxe version also includes an excellent DVD. The DVD has acoustic performances of 7 songs from the album. The DVD is very cool to see, and features just Crow and her co-writer/guitarist. The only weird thing is that the video doesn't match the audio track - it seems like maybe they recorded the acoustic versions and then made video playing along with it? I don't know why they would record it (at least) twice (once for audio and once for video), but that's what it looks like.
If you are a Sheryl Crow fan I'd say this is a must have, and highly recommend the version with the DVD too.
Another really good CD
This one is no exception. I think Sheryl now has enough classic music to put her in the category as one of the best. I would recommend this to any fan.
I think it's funny when reviewers get into the stars' personal lives. I read one review where they were 'sad Lance and her broke up'. Does that make the music sound different??? I guess I don't get it. Maybe Sheryl is too good for Lance. Hmmmm. . . maybe I'm gonna start my own gossip column. . . maybe not.
I will say I'm sure I'll buy Sheryl's next CD.
Wildflower
This is a good cd with great sound. Sheryl Crow has consistently proven herself a talented musician and song writer. Since I picked up Wildflower when it came out in 2005, there are now two additional editions.
The deluxe edition includes a bonus DVD with seven acoustic tracks: Where Has All the Love Gone, Letter to God, I Know Why, Perfect Lie, Lifetimes, Good Is Good, and Always on Your Side. It also has the video for "Good Is Good. "
The bonus tracks edition adds an Always On Your Side remix as a bonus track. The standard cut of Always On Your Side is included as with the original edition as well.
It'll be hard to pick a favorite, but you still will really like each and every song.
Sheryl, I love ya, but...
When she secured a career of her own, she dropped plenty of classic or near-classic albums like Tuesday Night Music Club, C'mon C'mon and her self-titled album. I have been a Sheryl Crow fan ever since she used to background for Michael Jackson. Aside from The Globe Sessions, which got mixed reviews, I never had to think twice about giving one of her albums a high rating. But her latest, Wildflower, didn't turn out to be as fresh as I'd hoped.
The lead single "Good Is Good" is good is good -- WHAT'D I say? Anyway, aside from that song and possibly "I Know Why", the lyrical quality makes you wonder if Sheryl ran out of ideas. As other reviewers have mentioned, most of the songs are mellow, and in the words of a hit off her first album, they ain't strong enough. Songs like "Lifetimes" and "Chances Are" really don't go anywhere, and "Perfect Lie" could stand a rewrite or two. "I Don't Wanna Know" also has her hitting some odd notes during the chorus.
Surprisingly, the fast songs aren't that great either: "Live It Up" kind of comes off as the kind of song you'd hear from a pop star that was trying to cross over into contemporary rock. Basically, I'm still a devoted Sheryl Crow fan, but I advise everyone to only buy Wildflower for the same reason I bought it: to complete your Sheryl Crow collection.

Brilliant!
This time there's something different. I've always considered Sheryl Crow to be a mediocre talent - sure I've sung along to songs like "All I wanna do" and "Every day is a winding road" and "Soak up the sun" on the radio - but did I BUY one of her CDs? Nah. I heard "Good is good" first and was more impressed than usual. Then I heard "Always on your side" (the duet with Sting is even BETTER!) and I was hooked. I bought Wildflowers and can't stop listening to it. There's so much more depth than I ever expected. She put her heart and soul into this album and it shines. Thank you, Sheryl.
