The Acoustic Album Alone Makes this a Must Buy! However, this one does a good job of reviewing their entire career and their most popular singles. The Cure has plenty of "Best Of" collections on the market. Sadly, some of their albums are ignored, but this is still a great introduction to this legendary alterative / goth band.
Also, there are two songs you will find exclusively here. And best of all, the real treat is the bonus disc that comes with the limited edition version; it's all the songs on the first disc, but done acoustically! It rocks! Some of these old songs sound truly fresh again.
I'm sure this has been a gateway disc for many mall goths of suburbia. However, who cares if this band is associated with a pretentious scene the music is really dreamy and catchy!
The Cure in their heyday were way deeper than 99% of the so-called "alterative" bands of today, but they hardly get played anymore. Yes, the cult of youth ruins everything.
.
AFTER A CONCERT
I've bought it after the concert in Lisbon - Portugal.
This item is wonderfull. I went to see the concert with my wife and I didn't know that she was mad about The Cure, so I've bought this item to offer her on Mum's day.
A good greatest hits package
) Also included on the disc are two new songs: "Cut Here" and "Just Say Yes" (which featues Saffron from Republica on guest vocals). This greatest hits collection from The Cure includes many of the usual suspects ("Boys Don't Cry," "Let's Go to Bed," "Close to Me," "Just Like Heaven," "Lovesong," "Friday I'm in Love," "Mint Car," etc.
This edition of Greatest Hits also includes a bonus disc of acoustic renditions (the disc is titled Acoustic Hits). This disc includes acoustic versions of the eighteen songs that appear on the first disc. For the most part, the acoustic arrangements stayed very true to the original arrangements. Hearing these acoustic verisons is a refreshing change of pace; however, "Wrong Number" was a disappointment (it's the kind of song that really doesn't lend itself very well to an acoustic arrangement).
This is a very solid greatest hits album. This would definitely work as a good introduction for people who may not be as familiar with The Cure.
Classics
These are all good songs - classic! But I definitely don't like the change in rhythm in 'Close To Me'. . Robert and his boys should've left it as it was.
unplugged = fantastic
The band seems to have a lot of fun playing the music and the songs really stand on their own once stripped of the synth and production. I really like the bonus unplugged CD. Made me appreciate the Cure in a brand new way.
