Best Danzig by far This one is the best by far and its not close. Don't waste your time trying to pimp other Danzigs. Also, Mother is probably one of my least favorite tracks here. End of Time is AWESOME. Gotta love She Rides, Am I Evil and the opening track as well as the killer Not of this world. The most complete Danzig althought the last 2 tracks are a bit weak. I have all the Danzig CDs and he never topped this one. .
Great, Great, Album/One Of A Kind
I just couldn't get into and past their image. I did not like Danzig at first. Then this album got caught in my cd player. Wouldn't eject form my car stereo. So, everyday on my way to work I just kept the volume low and listened to it as background music. After a while, I started putting the volume up, little by little, as I would start to hear characteristics that I found to be interesting. At this point, I am just dissecting the music, scrutinizing it every which way possible to back up my rational for writing it off. Buy, you know, I couldn't do it. I kept finding the vocals to be a huge highlight. This guy is truly a talented singer that crosses genres. Quite unique.
I didn't really care for the guitars at first, except for the solos. I found the riffs to be fairly basic and obvious. But, after awhile, I started noticing the very subtle qualities to the way they write the riffs. Very structured, and very much for the song, rather than for the sake of standing out. I started to see them in the way you might view a jazz quartet. Everybody playing for the music. Doing what is going to = "Danzig", and nothing else.
Also, I noticed that half of the songs are actually very good, but that they're all listenable and solid. Very enjoyable.
I really regret waiting on this and being closed minded. .
Still a masterpiece. Essential for any music collection
It stayed in my discman all through Junior High and High School and till this day, with the exception of maybe "Lucifuge", I don't think I've ever listented to another album more. Over the years, I've owned so many copies of this one that it's hard to keep track but I got my first copy when I was just thirteen. It also opened my eyes and got me into all different types of rock and metal.
There was something magic going on with those first two Danzig albums that he's never managed to regain. The production by Rick Rubin was perfect for the material. Glenn's voice was in peak form. The lineup has never been better. I can't even imagine what it must have been like to have heard this album in 1988 for the first time, when the charts were dominated by glam and pop metal. That may have something to do with why this one didn't get the attention it deserved until '93.
So twenty years later, it's still very much a masterpiece and it only seems to have gotten better with time. .
Gotta love glenn
It is way more metal than the misfits but the musical complexity is off the hook. If you like the misfits, you will probably like danzig.
Classic Danzig
However, the classic Mother has to be owned. This album is not as deep, in terms of great songs, as other Danzig albums.
