great ones from the champ !!!
Bobby accomplished so much during his all-too-brief life; and this CD proves it. Spotlight On Bobby Darin is a fine single CD compilation of his very best songs; and this makes an excellent starter CD for many people who are just discovering the talents of Bobby Darin. The quality of the sound is very good and the artwork is good although standard for this CD series.

The album starts with a rousing, jazzy rendition of "Alabamy Bound;" this song goes back to the days of Al Jolson and Al would certainly enjoy Bobby's interpretation of this classic tune! "Blue Skies" slows down the pace a bit and it's charming to hear Bobby Darin deliver this song with all his energy. Bobby's excellent sense of timing and diction bolster his performance very nicely; and the music that accompanies him goes perfectly with his singing. "Standing On The Corner" was a very popular song in the late 1950s and early 1960s; I first heard this tune sung by Dean Martin. Bobby again gives this a more jazzy treatment to put his own mark on the number. Great! There's another gem when Bobby performs "I'm Beginning To See The Light;" and I really like "The Good Life. " "The Good Life" is extremely elegant and Bobby's version is my absolute favorite! I predict that if you like this type of music you're bound to be charmed by Bobby Darin singing "The Good Life. "

"Just In Time" is a very romantic tune that swings here just right; and "You Made Me Love You (I Didn't Want To Do It)" makes me think of Judy Garland who sang this timeless love song in Broadway Melody of 1938. Judy would love Bobby's version of "You Made Me Love You (I Didn't Want To Do It);" I am sure of it.

"Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)" is a true classic if there ever was one; and I am charmed by Bobby's tender style as he sings this to perfection--and beyond! "All By Myself" also has a lot of class; this elegant number shines like silver and gold when Bobby massages the lyrics to make this all his own! "A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square" boasts a lush musical arrangement to go with Bobby's singing; he does this flawlessly and "A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square" is another major highlight of this album. Listen also for "Call Me Irresponsible;" "Call Me Irresponsible" has that `60s Vegas nightclub flavor to it and you can tell just how well Bobby must have done this one onstage.

The album closes with Bobby Darin doing yet another terrific number entitled "I'm Sitting On Top Of The World. " "I'm Sitting On Top Of The World" has pep and Bobby's natural enthusiasm enhances the song even further.

We are so fortunate that Bobby Darin chose to share his talents with us when he was living; and this CD proves he was a champ. If you like this CD I suggest you try other CDs by the unrivaled Bobby Darin.

This one is a Must Have!
The intial reason I bought it was for his amazing version of "Fly Me to the Moon". This is by far my favorite Bobby Darin CD that I own and is one that I play over and over. He took a swingin', up tempo tune and created a heart stopping, beautiful love ballad that will have you closing your eyes, imagining young Bobby is in the room with you, crooning it for only you. Whatever "it" is, be it charisma, charm, or just a gorgeous voice, this amazing man had "it". Every song on this collection is amazing. This CD is a total must have and will make you fall in love with Bobby Darin. .

Gentleman Yes!
Have recently heard Rod Stewart on Michael Parkinson show doing Nightingale sang in Berkley Square and commented that's not a patch on Bobby's recording. Reviewer Bradley Briggs has said it all. Have only recently purchased this one and just love it.

The One and Only Bobby
Made me love Bobby even more. Thank you for giving us some of his unreleased tracks.

BOBBY DARIN = GREATEST GENTLEMAN OF SONG!!!!
Bobby does "Just In Time" haunting and ethereal and never before has this song had an interpretation like this! Standards such as There's A Rainbow On My Shouldler" and "All By Myself" will have you humming these tunes for months (in my case years!) on end and every song in this incredible collection is dynamite and done to the max. In the late 1950's, God bless my older sister for all of the great singers she turned me on to and none better than Bobby Darin!!! Sis must have played "Beyond The Sea" hundreds of times and I never tired of it!!! We loved Frank, but Bobby was it!! When the compact disc started I decided to complete my Bobby Darin collection and have purchased every release available on this great under-appreciated artist!! When I came to this collection I was completely amazed and blown away!! From the boarding on "Alabamy Bound", you know that you are in for a great ride and it is a wildly exciting one!!! "Blue Skies" are beautiful and clearer than ever before and the pathos of "You'll Never Know" may draw a tear!! Who could take something corny like "Standing On The Corner" and make it great??? Another lightweight "I'm Beginning To See The Light" becomes really great to listen to and you soon realize there is no stopping this giant!!! "The Good Life" and "I Wanna Be Around" were Tony Bennett (who is a really fine singer!) singles but are more gutsy and soulful in Bobby's versions. . . don't miss this classic as never again will a singer or collection equal this level of greatness. . . thank you Bobby Darin!.
