:~( Walden Robert Cassotto has too much talent for just 1 person:)
Had 2 BD songs on my ipod before I watched Kevin Spacey's Beyond the Sea. My father was a fan of BD's back when I was little. Became very interested because KS told viewers that it was NOT a linear biopic and that he didn't tell the actual story of BD's life. So, KS piqued my interest to find out the truth so I have read books and started to collect BD's music in linear order of release. Splish, Splash-great. . . . . . . That's All Superior. . . . . Darin at the Copa lovely. . . . . . This IS Darin OUTSTANDING:). . . . . For Teenagers Only alot of fun. . . . . . . Two of a Kind Way Cool;). . . . . . Love Swings TOO MUCH FOR WORDS. . . . . . . . Twist with BD IRRESISTABLE:}. . . . . . . then decided to buy up hard to find cd's jumped up to SONGS FROM BIG SUR. . . . . . . . . man, are there enough good words to say about this album? BD is a great talent. Every genre and all types of ranges, playing instruments and writing, producing. . . . . WOW this cd is one on the top of his music that he did. Wish he would of stuck with it instead of being picked up by Motown for his last 2 albums. This is real and more the human being is was. Imagine, all that talent in 1 person.
I cry thinking I have no such talent as his. I curse not being born during the era to be a teenager in the sixties. How much they had:)
As you can tell, I am now a HUGE BD fan:} Does it Show?.

Interesting note in Bobby Darin's career
". A side of the career of Bobby Darin that stepped away from "Mack the Knife.

Bobby Darin: Counterculture Folk Protest Singer

Varese focuses on the latter, recorded for Darin's Direction label in the late '60s. Darin was the consummate pop chameleon, forging a career that variously framed him as a '50s rock 'n' roll teen idol, standards crooner, Vegas powerhouse, and an unlikely - yet truly compelling - counterculture folk-singing protestor. Having dropped out to find himself in Big Sur, Darin doffed his toupee, grew a moustache and delved into his social consciousness. The transformation was even more astounding than his morph from rock 'n' roll singer to nightclub hipster. Darin proved himself with the thoughtful anti-war "Simple Song of Freedom," and hardship tales like "Jingle Jangle Jungle" and "Long Line Rider. " The fluidity with which he moved between folk-rock, soul, blues, jug-band and country flavorings was astounding.

For those schooled on "Splish Splash" and "Mack the Knife," this set is a real head-turner.

"Bobby Darin Born Walden Robert Cassotto & Commitment"
Varese Records presents some of the best from the folk-era of a young vocalist by the name of Bobby Darin ~ the album "Songs from Big Sur ", featuring eight previusly unreleased performances. . must have been a labor of love by the label. . . it certainly shows with all the talent that was available and at Bobby's disposal he made good use of every nook and cranny. . . the performances by Darin are showstoppers, remastering every track with tender loving care. . . several tracks "ROUTE 58". . . "EVERYWHERE I GO". . . "MY BABY NEEDS ME". . . "I AM". . . "I'M GOING TO LOVE YOU". . . "CITY LIFE". . . "LONG TIME MOVIN'", all previously unreleased for us collectors and "music junkies", this is a rare find.

From ballads, swingin' standards and grass root folk tunes. . . Bobby covered them all. . . each track tugs at your heartstrings, feelings are stirred when this young artist performs. . . when I listen to his recordings memories flow and I'm back when my children were young. . . life was better and the world was safer. . . Darin was probably one of the few entertainers that could do it all. . . just the way we like 'em!

Total Time: 77:40 on 22 Tracks ~ Varese Records 66566 ~ (9/14/2004).

Dazzling Darin
Songs From Big Sur contains some never released songs from 1969,when Darin played the Troubadour in LA. Bobby Darin was one of the most unique multi-talented,versatile performers of all time. What caught my attention is that Darin wrote every song. Bobby was politically aware of this era. It surely showed in his voice in many of his songs, especially Simple Song of Freedom. It sent chills throughout my body. Your fingers will be snapping all through Long Time Movin. Darin's guitar and harmonica expertise is remarkable. The format of this cd,liner notes, and photos were well thought through. This cd is a must for any Darin fan. Another cd/dvd well worth looking at is Aces Back to Back. William Polito Lodi, N. J.
