Customer Reviews
Good Lord...
Instead of the breakneck speed we know and love them for, we have more of a doom and gloom sound here. Man, I was totally unprepared for what I was about to experience when I bought this. Ghosts and hooded droids come to mind when hearing this album. I give this 4 stars because this album marked a transitional shift from death metal to unholy black metal that they're more famous for. Be sure to light candles in the dark and meditate while listening to this.

Their most Sinister album
High, Low, and utterly bizzare vocals accompany this album. Somewhere between Death metal and Black metal we have Goatlord. Fenriz's drumming is inventive and while working with other instruments, also ventures on its own and really speaks with it's own voice. Guitarwork is very odd at times, and plays high and low end riffs. The bad production is an advantage I think. It adds to the atmosphere.

More playful and experimental than other albums, this is not their best work, which is probably "Under a Funeral Moon" or "Transilvanian Hunger", but attacks more openly than those two previous albums, that are more subliminal in approach.

True Norwegian Black Metal

It does show some death metal influences too (As Desertshadows and Virgin Sin show it most). I like that Nocturnal CultO and FenriZ decided to wait and release this great black metal album after Total Death. Yet another great release from Darkthrone and Moonfog Records (why not PeacevillE if it was early stuff tho?).
