Everything is as it should be
For starters they have gone with a black and white picture for the cover which is the way to go for Darkthrone and secondly they have plunged in further into the roots of black metal. Darkthrone have done everything right on this release. Every song on this disc is 5 stars. Get it now before it runs out or you'll regret it later.

Darkthrone Pulls through in a Different Fashion
Obviously fed up with modern black metal, I feel maybe they have taken a new punkish stance to not be associated with the "trend" just as they did back in the early nineties when they switched to black metal with "A Blaze in the Northern Sky. Darkthrone has progessed from a technical death metal band (Soulside Journey, Goatlord) to a primitve and raw black metal outfit (Transilvanian Hunger, Panzerfaust) and now they come back with a vengeance and punk like attitude. " Darkthrone will never ride a trend, they will get their views of hatred against society and the evils of organized religion across in whatever fashion they feel fits the timeframe accordingly. Therefore, here we have an EP titled "Too Old Too Cold", set with a video (not included) and a cover of Siouxie and the Banshees in "Love in a Void". All this goes against many remarks of Fenriz over the years and I am sure "true kvlt" black metallers are furious about this EP and the change of Darkthrone. Yet, Darkthrone progresses forward and is the most unstagnant band out there right now, as with their change they still keep a bleak and raw atmosphere for the listener, fueled by catchy ryhtyms and even a few solos. Its not as powerful as the earlier releases (A Blaze through to Panzerfaust) but it still pulls through because of its obvious confident attitude of we dont give a **** what you think, we are darkthrone and we can do whatever the **** we want. Similar to Hate Them and Sardonic Wrath. Highlights are High on Cold War (will not be on the new album "The Cult is Alive"!!) and Graveyard Slut. Love in a Void id a little laughable at times and Too Old too Cold just isn't as wonderful as the other two. Try this out, but you may be disappointed if you sit in your basement escaping reality to such classics as "Transilvanian Hunger", and Burzum's "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss. ".

sweet
The songs really have go back to the "punk" side of Black Metal roots, so if you can imagine Darkthrone with more of a raw-punk feel to it; that's what this sounds like. This little single is surprisingly awesome, I can't really believe I doubted and (for a minute) was worried about Darkthrone. As an old school fan I really dig this is what they've done here and can't wait to hear a full album containing tracks with this "sound". I'm sure not every Darkthrone fan will feel the same way, but if you have a feel for more of that dark, old school punk then I think you'll like this. And for the purists don't worry, the production quality is straight Darkthrone. \m/.
