Diamond Dogs LP

My sister won this for me in Seaside Heights NJ on the boardwalk. Still have this on album.
David Bowie is simply FAB!!!.

Brave New World for Bowie
Diamond Dogs remains Bowie's art album of the period - an ambitious work, and yet somehow it doesn't quite gel or grab you. Bowie had waved goodbye to Ziggy Stardust - almost, but on the cover of Diamond Dogs, he still looked like the spiky red haired Bowie that everyone knew but morphing into something else. I wanted it to be grander, but it's more like a dark incomplete chapter into a longer novel, something that David would revisit in the 90s with concept albums like Outside.

Diamond Dogs suffers from being a conceptual piece that can't live up to Ziggy musically but still shows David moving forward musically. To his credit, David stakes out a harder rock turf with the title track. And varies the pace in this musical opera with Sweet Thing and 1984. Rebel Rebel is the standout track here, but it's tacked on like an afterthought - made more remarkable by the fact if I recall - that David played all the instruments himself.

Although somewhat of a failed musical, Diamond Dogs is still a crucial part of Bowie history - literally marking the end of Bowie's early 70s guitar rock sound before he embarked on Young Americans. It doesn't get much play on my Bowie setlist though, along with Lodger - but then again, they don't make artists like David Bowie anymore. So those fascinated with the legend should definitely explore. 3. 5 stars!.

It's Eternal!
A must for all Bowie fans!. I have been listening to David Bowie since 1975 and this stuff never gets old-- especially Diamond Dogs-- very glad to see it gets it's due with a 30th anniversary release.
