worth it
If not, you should hear it first because this music is nothing like Tribute to Jack Johnson, or even Live-Evil. If your checking this box set out, then I'm sure you've heard the original album. But, if you love On the Corner, Dark Magus, and the other live albums from this band(mainly cosey, henderson, lucas, foster, mtume), then this is a must have. It's worth the price, you wont be dissapointed, to me its worth it just for disc 3. I always wanted to hear studio versions of those live jams. Big Fun/Hollywuud sounds nothing like the material on Big Fun, it's a rocker. The Hen and Mr. Foster showcase some of the stuff you would hear on Dark Magus. Turnaround/U-turnaround, and Hip-skip are the only tracks that I don't care to listen to all the time. I was concerned about the first disc sucking, but it's pretty much the album just not master mixed, you hear all sorts of drum, guitar and organ that was edited to the way back or edited out completely on the album. On the corner outtake is awesome, But I dont understand One and One, is this really where black satin and one and one album version come from, because i just dont hear it, especially the bassline, can someone help me out? Jabali is awesome to. disc 5 and 6 youve already heard. Oh yeah, if you want to get back at Sony for the price of the set, heres what we should do. Get the box set, then you have On the corner, and get up with it, except for honky tonk, which is another era any way. Turn on some people to this music and give away your copy of on the corner and get up with it to the newbie, and Sony loses out on about 35-40 dollars for every person we give our albums to.

"MILES AWAY".....
ON THE CORNER,THE SINGLE DISC VERSION IS ALL YOU NEED WHEN IT COMES TO THE ORIGINAL RELEASE. JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU SAW THE LAST "BOX SET" RELEASE FROM THE MILES DAVIS VAULT ALONG COMES THIS WALLET WACKER. THE "BOX" SET WEARS THIN AS YOU WADE THROUGH SOME VERY MEDIOCRE MUSIC. . . . THIS IS A WASTE OF MONEY!!!!.

jam band Miles, made to order
I found a copy for about $80, I'm sure it will be less another 10, before long. Despite it's initial sticker shock, the music contained on these 6 discs is first rate and well presented. This music may have upset the fundamentalists back in 1972, but several jam bands down the road, it now sounds fairly natural and pretty jazzy for a Jam Band. I prefer this to much of the original material produced by the 2nd quintet. I thought those originals were somewhat outre' whereas OTC seems more groove oriented. You can dance to this stuff. Best Miles since the Complete In a Silent Way. Other outstanding electric Miles releases include: The Cellar Door Sessions box and Live At The Fillmore East (March 7, 1970) It's About That-Time.
