Continues the pop flavor of Into the Light
His commercial breakthrough had come in a huge way with "Lady in Red" and Chris was obviously comfortable writing radio-friendly songs that were in this vein. Flying Colors has continuity with de Burgh's previous album, Into the Light. This album boasted at least three hit singles, "Sailing Away", "Missing You" and "Tender Hands. " "Sailing Away" is especially catchy. They are all good pop songs, but they are not the only good songs on this album. "Carry Me" is also a lovely song and I like the ballad "Just a Word Away. " "A Night on the River" reminds me of Dire Straits and "The Last Time I Cried" is a nice song to end the album.
Chris also revisits Christian themes on this album, something I last recall he did on Crusader, but more so on Spanish Train and Other Stories. "The Simple Truth (A Child is Born)" and "The Risen Lord" are quite explicit in their references. I appreciate this about Chris - he was not shy about his faith even though he expressed the Christ story in allegory: "Just Another Poor Boy," and "A Spaceman Came Travelling. " .

Passes with "Flying Colours"
This was one of the first I heard from him. I first heard this album when I was about 5 and I loved it. Sailing Away became one of my faveourite songs by him. Now at 17 and I still listen to his music. I can't put the CD's down.
I recently ordered 5 of his CD's. . . and they all sound great.
He has brought out at least 15 albums, all with different themes to them.
The Love Songs was one of the greatest, with So Beautiful as my fave song.
In my opinion, you should all get all of his CD's. May cost a bit of [money] but it's worth it.

fascinating
Unfortunatelly we didn't get a sufficant work from him so far after this album. This is the album that made Chris well known especially in the states after his breakthrough he made with The Lady Ýn Red in "Into The Light".

one of the best cds ever
It great lyrics and great music with the great voice of Chris de Burg. This is a cd which any normal human being would love. I would rate this cd as 5 stars.

This album will not leave you.
I knew it was Chris DeBurgh, but had never heard it before. I first heard the song, "Carry Me (Like a Fire in Your Heart)," in the closing scene to the final (or next to final) episode of 'Miami Vice' when it first aired. The song captured perfectly the mood of Crockett's and Tubbs' loss of the dream of being able to make a difference in law enforcement. When I finally bought this CD, it stayed in my player for a week straight. The songs are powerful, and build to a stirring conclusion, reminiscent of his album, "The Getaway. " A few songs, such as "Missing You," may require multiple listenings before they can be fully appreciated, because they lean towards Deburgh's sappy side. However, they lend a respite from the emotionally charged gems contained on the CD that will leave you speechless.
