A couple Classics The recording has a couple songs to, well remember. It, to me, is no wonder this band broke up. I wouldn't show up at a party with this, you will be laughed silly out the door.
Great sound, awesome band.
While I found a couple of songs here that quickly became favorites, the production quality clearly indicates this is their first album. I have been a long time Dead Can Dance (DCD) fan but never heard their original album until this time. This is not a bad thing, especially considering this was back in the early 80's.
While I'm not an audiophile, I am trying to get the best possible audio quality when it comes to bands that deserve it. I listened to this album on a budget Sony 6. 1 HT system and a PS3 and was very pleased with the results.
I did have one problem with this purchase. The Amazon product description states there are 2 discs but there was only one. This is probably due to the fact that the album I got was a Japanese import, which was not stated in the product description either.
Nevertheless, it's a good product but just be aware that you might be purchasing the import version that only has one disc.

I like some DCD, but this one is not for my ears
I like all of Labyrinth and much of Selections. I have "Into the Labyrinth" and "Selections from North America". I found nothing I like on this album, DCD\DCD. To me the vocals, lyrics and overall sound come off as compressed and not interesting. For me it fits better in the noise category than the music category. Give it a listen to see what you think.
Exquisitely haunting
It transcends time, making it ever refreshing and classic. This album is one of those rare jewels that shines from the first song to the last. I could listen to it over and over again, and never tire of it. It's a wonder to me how this music is so elegant, yet so primal and, at times, animalistic. The voices of Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard soar seamlessly with the ambient atmosphere, bell percussion and tribal rhythms. From the dark and intense Fatal Impact to the haunting Musica Eternal, this album creates an ethereal tapestry that can draw you into another world.
It may be rawer than some of its successors, but personally I wouldn't have it any other way. I think that's exactly what makes this album so spirited and invigorating, in a different way from the others. That raw quality gives it an eerie power, like a look into the primordial heart of nature. If you're new to DCD, it can't hurt to start here. After all, I did, and I'm devoted.
A classic
It is one of a handful of albums from trhe late 70s to early 80s period that has the dark, raw sound that would come to be known as "goth". This is a great album, very inventive and unprecedented in its scope.
