A Killing Album since Machine Head!! The songs have the groove of funk together the technical and expertise of musicians like Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore, including the fantastic and multipurpose drummer Ian Paice, playing hard and sounding groovy when necessary. This album is amazing, this David's Coverdale's debut in the rock history together the bassist/vocalist Glen Hughes from Trapeze. The first song "BURN" is amazing, no words to describe, followed by "MIGHT JUST TAKE YOUR LIFE", LAY DOWN STAY DOWN" and 'MISTREATED" closing the best songs. The extra tracks are very good to listen to, specially the instrumental single "CORONARIAS REDIG", a kind of "Space Funk", I don't know how to describe it, very good, it's a mandatory album for Purple fans and 70's rock. Enjoy and Rock it!!.
Great Album Great Band
This album and the personnel replacement choices were true genius. Deep Purple had the ability to reinvent itself.
And when most drummers overplay it sounds like it.
"Lay Down Stay Down" demonstrates how Ian Paice by all standards is overplaying but every fill and lick is appropriate and fits the exciting song.
In a word "BRILLIANT!".
Deep Purple's hidden gem
Then I heard the title track - what an awesome song! And great lyrics: I didn't believe she was devil's sperm / She said curse you all, you'll never learn / When I leave there's no return / The people laughed 'till she said Burn!
"Mistreated" is the other terrific song on this album, in fact all the rest of the songs are good too, with the exception of the instrumental "A-200" which would have been better left off so that the album closed on a high note with "Mistreated". As a fan of Deep Purple Mk 1 and Mk 2, I had overlooked this album and just kept to the safety of Machine Head, In Rock and Fireball etc.
deep purple,s awesome burn album!!
and glenn hughs on bass replacing roger glover. deep purple,s burn was the first to feature the mark 3 line-up with new vocalist david coverdale whom would later go on to form whitesnake. burn is a very good album in my opinion for a band that was and is constantly changing members like most clean people change their underwear. sorry bad analogy!!one reason for the constant line-up changes was guitar maestro ritchie blackmore. ritchie could be very difficult at times or so rumour has it. the album cover for burn is one of the coolest in rock!! for me the stand out cuts are;burn, lay down stay down, what,s going on here and mistreated. if you are a purple fan get this!!!.
it burns, it smokes welcome to the band coverdale & hughes
He is known as the voice of rock for a reason he has the best vocal range of any singer but anyway on with the album. I saw in a review someone had written that they didnt like this album cause of glenn hughes's girl vocals are you kidding are we talking about the same guy. Gillian and glover leave and what happens you add coverdale and hughes on vocals and you get one of deep purple's best albums the two vocalists trading off they way they do is great. Deep purple has 3 great albums most people will agree 1. in rock 2. machine head 3. burn. Burn is just as good as anything with ian gillian i love 6 of the 8 songs here you fool no one and the last instrumental i can do without but the other 6 smoke the title cut could be the best song on the album along with mistreated and sail away deadly album no need to be unsure go buy it. stormbringer and come taste the band are not as strong but they do have good tunes on each album. to hear more glenn hughes he was in a band prior to joining deep purple called Trapeze. enjoy.
