The last horrah
These guys became the soundtrack of my youth, and I still cherish the early stuff. As a kid in the 80's I grew up with Def Leppard starting from "High N Dry" the all the way through "RetroActive". I somehow feel like the band changed when Steve Clark passed. The sound was similar but without Steve and his low hanging Fender Stratocaster, I lost interest. Many of the songs on RetroActive have Steves last creative input on it, this sadly ended my connection with my favorite band as a kid. I have MANY favorites on this album, such as "Desert Song", "Shes too tough", "Only ater dark", and "Two steps behind" and its a great album with final contrubutions from the guy that gave DL that great rock sound. But this to experience the last truly great album from a 1980's classic.

Def Leppard Retroactive Rocks!
I listen to this one all the way thru with no skipping songs because they are all great songs! .

A good collection
Not all the songs are great but they are decent. This collection is a good sample of leppard's not so well know songs, some b sides and alternate versions of known hits. What is truly missing is some rocking' b sides I do remmember from the Hysteria singles but is better than nothing, and they sound better here than in vinyl. It's not and awesome and complete collection but is ok.

Why did they name this "Retro Active"?
Def Leppard tried hard to stay within their roots despite having to battle grunge. It's still a good album, but the title is not appropriate as these I think are new songs. In the result I guess how this can be called "Retro Active" is that it sounds like the days of "On Through The Night", and "High And Dry". I used to have this album, and didn't make it as far as the studio version of "Miss You In A Heartbeat". I guess I didn't give it half a chance as I just didn't like "Hysteria", and "Adrenalize". However, this one is pretty good. It starts off with "Desert Song" which is definitely the closest thing to grunge these guys would do, but then they get back to the hard rock that they are nortorius for. With "Fractured Love", a good cover of the Sweet's "Action", "Ride Into The Sun", etc. The albums weak point is the song "Two Steps Behind" as it's a weak ballad. It also closes with an almost folk-rock song called "I Want To Be Your Hero". I just looked at another review, and this was a b-sides, rarties album, so I guess that explains the title. As I said still a good album, but it wasn't strong enough to go against the grunge machine. .

Def Leppard "Retro-Active" - "Some old stuff, plus some new stuff" = Great Rarities!!!!
You get 13 great songs, including: "Miss You in a Heartbeat" (Electric Version) & "Two Steps Behind" (Acoustic & Electric Versions). A Great cd of B-sides and rarities by Def Leppard. This music is a real "treasure" for Def Leppard fans, and I'm a fan. I love it!!! Thanks!!!.
