good for the true fan
It's cool to hear flanger effects on the opening chimes to Live Mini Maggot compared to the studio version. Let me begin by saying I'm a big Deftones fan and that this CD is quite good. Acoustic Change in the House of Flies was cool too. I only gave it 3/5 stars because on track 4, Nosebleed, theres a skip. And i've exchanged this item for a new one only to have the same problem. Also the levels between songs are messed up. i thought it could have been mixed a little better.

It's OK...
I have to say I was pretty dissapointed with it, the presentation of the CD was cool but the content on the CD is average, it certainly doesn't showcase Deftones at their best. I purchased this CD (my first Deftones CD) two weeks ago, after hearing Back to School, Be Quiet and Drive and Passenger. Because of a crack on the cover, yesterday I took this back for a refund. The next Deftones CDs I plan to buy are "Around the Fur" and "Deftones", released on May 20th 2003. As for "Back to School EP", only buy it if you want to complete your 'Tones collection.

Solid Stop-Gap EP
The main selling point of the EP is that it features the single 'Back To School' which came about after the band were playing 'Pink Maggit' at a practice session and began to jam, eventually creating the new song. This EP was released all over Europe (not just Germany as one reviewer said) in two editions, one with a slipcase cover and one without, to coincide with the Deftones 'Back To School Tour' with support from Linkin Park and Taproot in early 2001. The other tracks included on this release are a live version of 'Back To School' as well as the original song 'Pink Maggit'. Old live favourites 'Feiticeira', 'Nosebleed' and 'Teething' are also included along with the acoustic version of 'Change (In The House of Flies)'. The EP also features a bonus multimedia feature in the form of 'White Pony EPK', the electronic press kit sent out to journalists before the release of the 'White Pony' album. The EPK is a mini-movie of sorts with the band playing as the action unfolds. Overall, this is a solid offering from the Deftones and will definitely help to tide fans over until the release of their fourth studio album 'Lovers' as well as bringing back memories of the tour for fans like myself who attended any of the shows.

Excellent, but here is some info to help you...
Here is a track listing:

----- 1. This EP is great! It is an Import from Germany, the European Import is the same, but has no slip case (the picture that you see here is for the slip case). Back To School (Mini Maggit) 2. Feiticeira (Live) 3. Back to School (Live) 4. Lifter (Live) 5. Teething (Live) 6. Change (Acoustic) 7. Pink Maggit 8. White Pony EPK (Short Version, 8:32) -----

Songs 4 and 5 say that they were recorded in Chicago, but they were really recorded in Holland, and are the same versions that you will find featured on the Live [IMPORT] CD (Lifter), and the Back To School single (not EP, Teething). I hope this information was helpful. I know that it would have been for me when I was looking to buy it.

Back to School
Frankly, i'm not a big fan of back to school, it seems like an attempt to conform with the current trend of nu-metal songs, which is no good thing. I bought this CD along with adrenaline after witnessing the deftones playing with linkin park+taproot, for the b2s tour, and it was blinding, linkin park were great, they sounded amazing live, but the deftones completely eclipsed them, they are now my favourite band, and i own all their albums. It is a catchy melodic song, with chino doing an infectious rap for the verse, and the chourus is a speedier version of the end of pink maggit ("cause back in school. . we are the leaders. . . " etc. ). I preffered pink maggit, the song back to school is derived from, from the white pony album, thankfully its included with this EP. The live tracks, which make up the majority of this ep, are pretty good, its great to hear '7 words'(one of their best songs in my opinion)live. The highlight of this ep is definately the haunting accoustic version of 'change'. It takes one of the best songs from white pony and adds a whole new level to it. Also included is the bizarre 'white pony epk', which is a promo video for the entire white pony album. It is a cryptic film interlaced with the deftones performing some tracks from white pony.

I dont think back to school is a song the deftones should be promoting, it doesnt represent them fairly. If you are new to the deftones, get 'around the fur', it is possibly my favourite album ever.
