Bash your @#$%in head in with the book of his insanity Even Glen admitted that this album had some good songs/ideas. Despite all the negative reviews, and the band itself admitting to throwing this album, along with In Torment in Hell, together in a hurry, this is one of my favorite Deicide albums. I like the groove oriented style, as well as the more clearly executed vocal delivery, allowing most of the lyrics to be understood without a lyric sheet. This album and Serpents of the Light are the only albums where Glen's vocals are extremely clear. I consider that element to be a strength for both albums, as I think Deicide has some really great lyrics, but unfortunately they are mostly unintelligible without reading the lyric sheet. As for those of you who complain about the lyrics, you obviously don't relate to them. I relate to all of Deicide's lyrics on a personal level, as I was raised in a Christian home where I was made to go to church every Sunday and had attempts made to control what I watched, listened to, etc. I rebelled, hiding music and other things from my parents, as well as who I really was. I had to live a life akin to a homosexual raised by homophobes, in that I am an Atheist and had to live a lie of pretending to be a Christian for many years. When I was older and could no longer stand living a lie, I "came out" to the shock and horror of my Christian parents, who, in a panic, still attempted to force me to go to church "as long as I lived in their house. " That was until I got a night job where I was sleeping during those hours. Anyway, when you have lived a life like mine, you will share Deicide's pure hatred of Christianity.
Awesomeness
Still heavy, still brutal, still relentless and louder than anything else that can be heard on speakers. Deicide never dissapoint and this album proves it.
Perfect for a family get together
They are very spiritual and each song has a message. Deicide is a warm, friendly band that sings songs about God. They remind me of Steven Curtis Champman and Andrew W Smith combined. So next time you pick a cd for a family bbq, pop this cd in. Its a clean, American gospel cd with a powerful message. .
Surprised ME!
I have slowly been adding Deicide back into my collection, as I only had the first two albums. I was quite shocked that I really liked "Insineratehymn" and as much as the band hates the last two releases from Roadrunner Records, I thought this was actually solid. I wasn't suprised that "In torment in Hell" was going to suck, since most of you reviewers, plus the band, hated it. I was surprised to find out that I liked this one even better then "Once Upon The Cross" and "Serpents of the Light" since those were albums that got great reviews. I think what most people didnt like, is the band slowed down just a tad for this one, and Deicide has always been known for all out speed. Yet, it gives them a chance of pace, and sometimes thats a good thing, when the band can get somewhat stale sometimes. A solid release. This is so much more then I expected, Maybe some other Deicide fans will like this one to. ENJOY.
a favorite among the others
This was the first Deicide album that really got me into them. . I heard a few samples and was blown away by the vocals. . . for me music is about the vocals. Of course that was five years ago and it's only recent that I picked up this album. . . but I don't regret it. Each song is great stuff. . . good riffs and solos. . . and even some catchiness like Forever Hate You and Worst Enemy. Only complaint I have about this is the ending part of the last track. . . squealing pigs don't do it for me *sorry*. And the songs are short. . . but Deicide's known for that. I don't know why people bash this album and others by Deicide so much. . . the lyrics are expected to be about Satan and violence against God (after all. . . Deicide DOES mean "killing of God"). So. . . lets stop the complaining and hear a little more appreciation for some goood death metal shall we?.
