Not The Original Recordings, but OK These versions are ok, but not as good as the "radio play" ones. I had expected the original recordings when I ordered this CD. I listen to it occasionally, for background music.
Re-recordings plus the Windsong album
At least
you'll get the original versions of "Calypso", "I'm Sorry", and "Fly Away" on THAT one (plus a fun tune, "Love is Everywhere"). I was also fooled by the cover into thinking this was a collection of
the original hits; I got a revised version, 2 discs--one contained
these re-recordings and the other was his album "Windsong". For the re-recordings, his voice definitely sounds older but not too bad, and his revised versions of "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" and "Sunshine" are not too bad. But again,
re-recordings. (I wound up getting "Definitive All Time Greatest Hits"
after this one, and was more satisfied. ).
wedding jmusic
What else can one say about John Denver's music. The shipping is so fast and well packaged. . . we bought this to be played at our wedding. . the recessional and will lift everyone's spirits. . . he had one of those exceptional talents that mix a variety of eras. Thanks.
Pleasant John Denver Performances - But NOT The Originals Of His "Best"
Laurent, Quebec, Canada is that, more often than not, what they are presenting as someone's "best" is actually re-recordings of some of their biggest hits. One thing you have to be wary of whenever you see a volume from Madacy, based in St. This one, despite the connection to EMI-Capitol, is no exception. It was recorded at 16th Avenue Sound in Nashville the year before his untimely death on October 12, 1997 at age 53 in an airplane accident.
So, don't expect to hear Placido Domingo on the 1982 hit Perhaps Love (or even the John Denver solo version from his 1982 LP Seasons Of The Heart), or Sylvie Vartan on the 1984 hit Love Again. Nor do Fat City (Bill Danoff and Terry Nivert) of The Starland Express Band back him on Take Me Home Country Roads.
Not horrible recordings by any means - but these types of CDs need to be better advertised as re-makes, especially if ordering on-line as there you never get to see the "fine print. "
.
It's a good album
We just like his songs, period. My husband and I like John's older voice in these songs. I bought this to replace the same cd because it was badly scratched and my husband was sad about that. We also have 'An Evening with John Denver', which is an excellent and very fun album. .
