Idiosyncratic, Yes, But Worthwhile
PWGS contains fifty tracks, spanning from (wait for it) early days to latter days. Although I am not generally a greatest hits type of man, I bought the CD (my first Devo record) because of the sheer size of it. Since Devo is not a radio friendly band, all of it was new to me.

I am a fairly cautious consumer, so I thoroughly researched PWGS to make sure I wouldn't be "scalped" myself. The Amazon reviews cautioned consumers that PWGS had a solid disk one and a weak disk two. Here is my take.

Disk one is astounding- one great jam after another. My favorites are "It Takes A Worried Man" (previously unreleased), and "Freedom of Choice". Now I understand why Disk two was such a disappointment to so many people- as much as I like it, it can't hold a candle to disk one. Disk two contains a good dose of covers and more upbeat tunes. So I like it too, although not as much as disk one.

Despite the steep price, I find this to be a bang for your buck. Fifty songs for twenty five dollars is not bad; the cool 3D cover and booklet (60 pages) are icing on the cake.

I like the way the album is arranged. Both disks start and end with Devo shenanigans- 3 monologues and one atonal song. Since I am a new spud boy, I cannot rate the album more poorly based on its omissions.

I guess the bottom line is that the Devo Anthology did it for me. It is one of my favorite records, and I listen to it often. .

A career overview
It showcases their point of view very well. From the orginal indie lable singles to songs from various movie soundtracks, this is a two disc career spanning overview of Devo. It includes a studio version of "The Words Get Caught In My Throat" a concert closer as sung by Booji Boy. Also included is "It Takes A Worried Man" their song from the movie Human Highway.

The booklet is packed with everything you need to know about Devo's de-evolutionary philosophy. This is a quality release that serves Devo very well, but not perfectly. I have to ask, does any carrer compilation serve any band completely as intended?

Together Pioneers Who Got Scalped: The Anthology and Recombo DNA serve as a box set of Devo's carrer.

...well the first disk is excellent...
The first disk is gloriously excellent, but like most anthologies these days, the second disk is a painful and cringeworthy reminder of what drew the great band to a close. . Better off buying Devo's first 3 releases in their entirety would be my advice, as the first disk of the anthology left me wanting more of their early period.

Very much what I wanted from a DEVO collection.
Very fun to listen to and surprisingly sexual beats.

Awesome Collection
Personally I don't even like "Whip It". Devo has always been so much more than "Whip it". Here is a collection that brings you the true classics. I would make some small changes here and there, but "Planet Earth" is the only criminally ignored omission and you get classics that you can't find anywhere else like "Soo Bawlz" so how can anyone complain. This is the collection that will encapsulize Devo's place in history as one of the ultimate bands. .
