Classic Neil
The lyrics are playful, and the vocals rich and soulful. I enjoy this recording very much. For people who haven't discovered how great Neil Diamond was in his prime, try this one.

Diamond at his peak
My Dad finally bought a cassette recorder (an upright mono portable that cost a hundred bucks in 1972). When I was little we had scads of Neil Diamond singles from his Bang & Uni years. For fathers day 1973, my sister gave him 2 cassette albums: Neil Diamond's "Moods" & "Jonathan Livingston Seagull. " At age 8, I was hooked! For the first time we had 'portable' music (the family car had only an AM radio) and these 2 albums made every vacation trip with us. Today, at age 44, they are still in the CD case every trip I take. Neil Diamond was at his peak throughout the Uni years and up through the Columbia release "Serenade. " Moods remains my favorite of all. It has been described as being like a spiritual experience to listen to and I couldn't agree more. "Play Me" "Captain Sunshine" & "High Rolling Man" are my very favorites but there's not a clinker on the album. Even "Gitchy Goomy" & "Porcupine Pie" are fun and well worth the listen. Having gotten used to the song sequence of the cassette, I found the CD version (which is the same as the LP) a bit disconcerting so I actually made a dub of it with the songs in the sequence I had been so used to throughout the years. To all the others who have written here, I raise my.

It brang me pleasure
" I was so impressed with this record, way back in 1971 or whenever, I mentally glossed over that fact when Neil crooned it so dramatically in "Play Me. Yeah, I know, there's no such word as "brang. "

I was an adolescent, particularly susceptible to clever weavings of word and tune; and this record seduced me, took me heart and soul, as only a hormone-drenched fifteen-year old can be taken.

On the sunset side of fifty, I find myself still deeply moved by the music, the emotion Neil infused into each phrase, the angst of the whole enterprise.

And that rates four stars, don'tcha think?.

Definative Neil Diamond!
It does hit so many moods from fun songs like "Porcupine Pie" and "Gitchy Goomy" to the foot tapping "High Rolling Man. This is my all time favorite Neil Diamond album, which is saying a lot. " The song "Cante Libre" soars as does "Walk on Water. " My favorite, has to be "Morningside," though, a touching ballad whose lyrics are so subtle that you almost miss their meaning. When you really listen to "Morningside" it brings tears to your eyes. And that is great songwriting.

Moods
So glad to purchase it in a cd. Have had this in LP for many years. Excellent!!! as all of his music. Songs from this album however were among the ones that have made me a Neil Diamond fan for over 40 years. His music is timeless, unique, and wonderful. A dream of mine is soon to come true. . . Nov. 2, 2008 my daughter is taking me to St Louis for his concert. Proves you never get too old to enjoy beauty.
