PURE GENIOUS WHEN IS DIO GOING TO GET THE RESPECT HE DESERVES HE HAS OUTLASTED THE BEETLES MICHAEL JACKSON WILL OUTLAST THE ROLLING STONES AC/DC AND KISS THE ONLY ONE HE MAY NOT OUTLAST IS OZZY AND THAT WILL BE A GOOD RACE TO BET ON. DIO KEEPS ROCKING HE AND OZZY MAY NOT LIKE EACH OTHER BUT THEY HAVE SIMULAR VIEWS ON POLITICS AND THE WILL TO OUTLAST ALL CONTEMPORARY BANDS AND ROCK OUT AS LOUD AS THEY CAME IN THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING AND SHIVERS ARE MY FAVORITES. ALSO LOOK AT HEAVEN AND HELL THE DEVIL YOU KNOW IT IS GREAT AND DIO IS AS GOOD THERE AS IN MASTER OF THE MOON.
ANOTHER MASTER PIECE FROM DIO
THE SONGS: (1. THIS IS THE 2004 ALBUM FROM THE GENIUS RONNIE JAMES DÍO WHO STARTED HIS SOLO CARRER IN 1983. ONE MORE FOR THE ROAD) A GREAT OPENNING!!!, SMASHING GUITAR RIFFS. (2. MASTER OF THE MOON) DECIBELS DOWN HERE BUT EPIC, THE SONG THAT TITLED THE ALBUM 'N GREAT INSTRUMENTATION ALONG WITH THE VOICE OF R. J. D (3. THE END OF THE WORLD) BACK TO RIFFS. . . YEAH!!! Dio - 'Master Of The Moon' (Sanctuary)
Heard a couple of other fans comment this CD wasn't 'all that'. Much stronger Dio release than I had expected. Actually, it's pretty damn good, I thought. The songwriting and the playing may not be Dio's best ever but his vocals appear to be in top form. Tracks that made me sit up and take notice were "The End Of The World", the *ss-kicking "Shivers", "The Man Who Would Be King", "Living The Lie", the earth-pounding "I Am" and the total Dio-esque "Death By Love". Personally, I hadn't seen Ronnie James and crew out on tour for awhile now. This effort proves the rock & roll Elf is still in full force.
Rush release or a shiny demo from Dio??
As such, I've seen magic in everything that he's done. First, I will say that I am a loyal Dio fan and have been since Sabbath's Heaven & Hell. That being said, this collection falls short of his most recent work.
The positives:
Ronnie's voice is in perfect order. His vocal work in this release as well as the last five or more releases have been stellar. The lyrics are typical Ronnie style and require even more interpretation than usual. The songs are a little more textured than his most recent discs. The use of keyboards here is complimentary to the songs and doesn't de-metal the Dio sound.
The Negatives:
The rhythm is the cd is slow and plodding overall. After "One More For The Road" the cd slows down and never really picks up again. Though there are a few great guitar solos here as in "End of The World" and "Living The Lie" but overall the guitar leads are rare and the rhythms are just plain boring. Craig Goldy's guitar work didn't win me over on Magica and I don't like it here. I don't know if his playing is as restrained as he sounds here or if he was instructed to play this way but I find it very slow and plodding. I admit that I miss Tracey G (Angry Machines, Last In Live) and Doug Aldrich (Killing The Dragon). I'm glad that Rudy Sarzo is on bass now but we really don't get to hear him shine on this disc.
The general production gives the cd a very thick and heavy sound. I love the fact that I can actually hear the bass for a change, however something in the recording makes this cd sound muffled and unclear.
There are some great songs here but it sounds like a disc full of slow songs that were meant to be included on several different discs. I've wondered if this was a rush release or a shiny demo from Dio so that Ronnie could get form (re-form) Heaven & Hell with his buds from Sabbath. Either way, it's too bad that these songs will most likely get lost in the Dio archives. With work, these songs could be masterpieces individually, but together they sound like a waste of half written songs, a good title and a good cd cover. I can only hope no who hasn't owned a Dio disc in years doesn't pick this up and think that this is a typical Dio release.

One of Dio's all time best *
His band on this release-Craig Goldy on lead guitar, Jeff Pilson on bass, Scott Warren on keyboards, and Simon Wright on drums are great. This is Dio's best studio album since The Last In Line. With a band like that, you know this will deliver the goods, but more importantly, Ronnie is still at the top of his game with his vocals, and the songwriting is inspired and fresh. . . some of Ronnie's best lyrics in over 20 years, and the music is strong with catchy riffs and arrangements that really stick. Just enough contrast between the slower moody numbers with some good upbeat rockers. Favorite tracks are "Shivers", "The Eyes", "One More For The Road", "End Of The World","Death By Love", and closing track "In Dreams", but every song is really worth listening to. Don't miss out on one of Dio's best albums! Master Of The Moon is excellent. Give it a few listens before judging this.
