Dire Straits - Alchemy: Dire Straits Live Audio CD
A fair review of the Dire Straits "Alchemy: Dire Straits Live" Audio CD. Please note that the below review is the views of the authors, and authors only. You can get a complete list of all
Dire Straits reviews here, or go back to the
Dire Straits tabs.
"Alchemy" -- Dire Staits Live Much of the added length is instrumental and the tempo is slowed. The disc includes a long version of Sultans of Swing. Excellent recording of Sultans.
Needs a few more tunes for perfection
Hopefully in the future Mark Knopfler will approve a rerelease with Industrial Disease and Twisting By the Pool. I agree with all the reviews this is a must have. This would complete the show. Also they could add It Never Rains as a bonus track which was included early in this tour.
These Extended Songs Still Sound Super!
Much of this represents some of the best materal of Mark Knopfler and the gang. This double-disc "live" CD has gotten a lot of play of my CD/DVD disc players over the years. It's hard to believe this came out almost 25 years ago. Knopfler even had a full head of hair back then! (My DVD came out in 1984, which is when it was first released. The concert was held in July of 1983. )).
If you like long songs, this is the ticket for you and almost everything on it lasts awhile. These are not 2-4-minute songs.
For uptempo, there is the group's famous "Sultans Of Swing," along with "Two Young Lovers," featuring a great sax solo by Mel Collins. The rest is middle of the road to ballad material. All of them feature Knopfler's fabulous guitar work. I've never been a big fan of his vocals but his guitar sounds are so good, so uniquely his, that they have made me a fan of his and his group to this day.
Many times, rock groups sound pretty poor "live," compared to their polished studio work. . . . but not Knopfler and Dire Straits. In fact, they sound better when they're live. .
I want my, I want my, I want my DVD!
It is incredible. This concert I have loved for so long. The extended versions of the songs are AWESOME, especially the new part in Sultans. Mark Knopfler is GOD.
WHEN ARE THEY - IF EVER - GOING TO RELEASE THIS ON DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????.
"Alchemy" a golden chemistry
The live versions of the songs are better than the studio recordings. One of the best Live album's ever done.
