good but for the price a error is to be expected I would guess. The price was great, but due to the scratches I'm unable to play track 9, as it skips.
Rock Only
I had to run out and get this album right away. I happened to be channel surfing when I came across Allison Robertson banging out some hellacious licks on a TV performance of "Take It Off". While most of their earlier work was a little too punk for me, The Donnas nailed the true spirit of rock and roll with Spend the Night, by using a classic rock template and adding a fresh, raw sound. The Fem Four provide incredible energy with their hard drivin' rock; no ballads here. This album was their first commercial success. Give a listen and find out why!.
Bold, Daring & Pumpin'!
I love the heavier vocals on this album unlike the ones prior. This is what i'm talking about!. Anderson sounds older, more mature and edgier than she ever has before. The music itself sounds boosted unlike the earlier albums. This is where it all started for The Donnas if you ask me, With this record. . . the others were practice records IMO. The lyrics on "Spend The Night" come off random, scattered & tossed around as if Brett's singing off the top of her head. What I mean by this is that the songs are short and the lyrics sound smashed and crammed into that short amount of time, I believe that's what they were going for "It has a more punk effect". The way the songs are arranged doesn't sound like they were pre-meditated or looked over before recording. The songs on this album are aggressive, straight-to-the-point and express a pissed-off or snobby attitude. Brett comes off as a bully on some tracks! Another thing i've noticed is that Brett slurs on some of the songs as if she's high or intoxicated. Maybe the songs were written on a night they were all high, Which also might explain the random-styled-lyrics, I noticed this in contrast to all the other 'Donnas' Records. With all that I described these are the reasons I appreciate this album. These are the things that make "Spend The Night" it's very own record. "Who Invited You?!" "Please Don't Tease" "Not The One" & the Bonus track "Mama's Boy" are some of the best tracks on the album, Just to name a few. "Spend The Night" is the bands most popular album with lead single "Take It Off"
.
This is rock n' roll
Yes,the lyrics are about yep, sex, drugs and rock n' roll. This is a great rock n' roll record. . Allison robertson(donna R. ) Is a boogie rock guitarist that blows away most of the males and females today. look them up on you tube to hear them live. . . Like a rolling freight train!
Oh, and this is not "pop punk" by any means.
Punk-pop should be fun. this is what The Donnas is about
Allison is a god when it comes to riffs and solos, the songs lyrics are like the Ramones' songs. I love how so many people complain about the Donnas when all they've got is pure and fun power-punk from these four girls. How come nobody disses the Ramones for talking about teen love and sniffin' glue? Ha!
This album is pure energy-filled rock with awesome guitar work. It's what they promised and delivered.
If you want something more elaborated, please tune into Muse or Refused or The Smashing Pumpkins or Pink Floyd. I don't know. These girls stay true to the things they love about rock: loudness and catchy tunes.
Get over it.
