You can do better - on 2000's "Greatest Hits" and 2007's double "Very Best Of," each with upgraded sound. Released to capitalize on the success of (and collapse of) the Doobie Brothers after "One Step Closer," this best of gathers most of the hits from "Minute By Minute" and "One Step Closer," adds a couple album cuts and tries to pass itself off as a "Best Of. Leave this one in the dust bin.

Best of the Doobies, Vol 2
The cassette tape of this album is long worn out. I remember back to a concert of the Doobies at Easten New Mexico Univ, almost every one of these tunes was played. This is a teriffic album! Just the late 70s. .

McSOUL MAN
Not only did the tasty rock & roll chops of the Doobie Brothers become seriosuly dilluted after the departure of head honcho Tom Johnston, pop hits from Christopher Cross, Robbie (STEAL AWAY) Dupree, McDonald's wife AMY HOLLAND, Patti Labelle and Kenny Loggins (who co-wrote Doobie mega-hit WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES) were all heavily McDonald-influenced. THE DOOBIE BROTHERS-BEST OF THE DOOBIES, VOLUME 2: Like the Bee Gees in their disco drenched hey-day, there was a time in the late seventies when EVERYTHING on pop radio was awash in Michael McDonald's smooth n' smokey, yet unmistakably "white" RNB sound. BEST OF THE DOOBIES, VOL. 2 is a time capsule of their middle of the road years, though surprisingly few bona fide "hits" are represented; only FOOL and REAL LOVE even hit the TOP 10. Marvin Gaye chestnut LITTLE DARLIN' I NEED YOU, slow groover MINUTE BY MINUTE, and YOU BELONG TO ME (which Carly Simon charted with) all bear McDonald's unmistakable neo-soul stamp. He's not offset often enough by Pat Simmons' quite capable croon, as on DEPENDIN' ON YOU, the one "rock" tune here, and ONE STEP CLOSER, co-written by country upstart Carlene Carter. Overall, this adds up to a pleasurable enough listening experience (some might call it "background music"), but scarcely a match for the knuckles-to-the-fretboards punch of the original BEST OF THE DOOBIES. RATING: THREE DOOBIE DOOBIE DOO'S .

Typical Doobies - But not up to scratch
I have heard Doobie Live in NZ / New Plymouth. The second of the Doobie albums was pure Doobie in the same genre as always , more laid back, and from a long term Doobie fan overall dissapointing, re issues of previous tracks and nothing really new and interesting. They were fantastic live. It should have been recorded.

The title says it all!
I own all the aforementioned albums. I won't own this album because the material contained herein was all previously released respectively and originally on LIVIN' ON THE FAULT LINE,the Grammy-winning MINUTE BY MINUTE and ONE STEP CLOSER. These are all great songs from Michael McDonald's tenure with the Doobie Brothers. McDonald joined the DB's just before original frontman Tom Johnston exited due to health reasons. McDonald takes the lead on LITTLE DARLING(I NEED YOU),MINUTE BY MINUTE,the Grammy-winning WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES(written by McDonald and his close friend Kenny Loggins) and REAL LOVE. The other songs are great.
