A lost overlooked gem from 1989! Fans of Savage Republic, Abecedarians, For Against rejoice! The music on this disc is all instrumental (hence the title Aphonia) with exception of vocal samples taken from various movies (done much in the line of Skinny Puppy, Tackhead and all those great industrial bands of the 1980's). This CD blew me away when I picked it up 20 years ago and still holds up today! First of all, to clear up any confusion this is Drowning Pool from Southern California who formed in 1984, not the nu-metal band out of Texas that formed in 1999. Fans of the old Los Angeles underground scene will appreciate this CD and should discover it, if they haven't already. Drowning Pool toured and played with bands like the Abecedarians, Savage Republic, Red Temple Spirits and For Against. The music on this disc is hard to describe but it never gathered dust in my collection as I play this CD often. Some tracks like "Black Baghdad" and "The Italian Pop Song" have appeared on various compilations. Seek out their first album aka The Green Album and Satori with great vocals by Andrew Crane for further proof!.
