Steve Earle "Live at Montreux" 2005 - DVD
I liked the songs: "What's a Simple man to do", "The Devils right Hand", "South Nashville Blues", "CCKMP" (Cocaine Can't Kill My Pain), "Ellis Unit One", especially "The Mountain", and "Copperhead Road". What I liked: I liked some of the songs and some of the performances by Steve, I do believe he is a talented musician.

What I didn't Like: I didn't like Steve's President Bush "bashing", I think it was very inappropriate, very untasteful, and very unprofessional. I don't think any U. S. President should be "bashed", especially in another country. I respect President Obama, I don't think he should be "bashed" either. And what really turned me off was Steve was so low, he even stooped as far down as to bash the former Secretary of State "Condi" Rice. This is sad.

Everyone has a right to free speech, but Steve, in my opinion, this is not the time and place for such expression. I just wanted to watch your concert, and enjoy your music. I didn't want to hear your political opinions.

Also, I didn't like Steve's explanation of the song "Dixieland". He talked about northern "Irish-Americans" going down to dixieland to fight a war about "class warfare". I agree slavery was wrong, there's no doubt about that. However, there were "Irish-Confederates" who did not own slaves, but fought against the northern invaders to protect their lives, homes, families and homeland. And again, I didn't want to hear Steve's hypothesis about the causes of the American Civil War. I just wanted to hear a good concert.

Steve is a talented musician, he doesn't have to resort to this kind of behavior to be entertaining. Without the Bush, "Condi", and "Dixieland" "bashing", this could have been maybe a 4 star. Steve, I forgive you, and may God bless you.

If you like Steve's music, without having to hear his political viewpoints, than I recommend the Steve Earle "Live From Austin, Texas" 2000 DVD. It is much better. I do like Steve's music, and I do think he is a talented musician. Thanks, and may God Bless!!!!.

Steve Earle - Live at Montreaux
I recommend it highly for any Steve Earle fan. This is a great DVD. He does some really great songs on this DVD. .

Subliminal performance

Subliminal footage and audio capturing,I give it only 4 stars beacause I don't like the version of The Devil's Right Hand he plays here, although he plays it mostly like this live. This is one beautiful taped gig by THE man himself.
The audio CD, Steve Earle With Friends contains in my opinion the best version and got me hooked on to the genious songwriter.
Enjoy!.

Scratching my head
I must be missing something here. I recently have heard a few things about this singer-songwriter and thought I'd check out a few of his CD's including this one. I have been heavy into music since the early '60's and am a big fan of Dylan, Lennon, etc. but I simply don't see the fuss over this guy. He sounds like some local coffee shop singer who sometimes has some interesting lyrics but the music isn't very inventive at all. It has a total lack of melody and the guitar playing is simple. Sorry I wouldn't recommend this to anyone I know.

Steve Earle Stripped Back and Real
A powerful performance and in between songs he lets the audience know how he feels about the state of the world and America in particular from a fairly unbiased view point. This DVD captures Steve Earles performance at Montreux solo playing just guitar or mandolin. He talks about what his inspiration is behind a lot of songs and gives a meaningful and real performance. This is a must have for anyone who likes good music.
