I honestly forgot these guys even existed.

This CD isn't bad the way a bunch of no-talent hacks are. I was at karaoke last night and I was flipping through the book for music choices when I saw "Get Away" by Earshot and I was like "Whoa, those guys actually existed! I forgot about them!"

So with that said, I have no problem reviewing old stuff so here this goes. These guys at least have the requisite ability to play their instruments. It's the overwhelmingly embarrassing lack of originality that crippled any attempt for credibility in the music community. I mean, if they didn't simply record a CD and market it to the industry, if they actually played out and played live, could have ANYONE told them to maybe not sound like. . . well if you haven't figured it out by the other reviews, I guess I can't help.

But yeah, the songs on this album sound largely like leftover Tool riffs and generic rock. Not a fan.

.

It Was... OK
Every song is different, but the CD is a little drowned out. This CD has the same tone throughout the CD. The quality of the audio is not very good. Very midrange sound in all the songs. Not very dynamic. .

Tool?
Music is not like tool and, I'm sorry. I don't get the comparisons to tool at all. . . I hear this band I don't here Maynard James Keenan. Both of their cd's are good though.

Maurice Alouf is wrong
In response to other reviews by people such as Maurice Alouf, I wanted to say that I am a HUGE Tool fan. I just wanted to say that this a great CD and I wanted to defend this band and defend Tool. I own all of their CDs and have everything Tool, I am always listening to them, etc. . . Earshot does NOT sound like TOOL! The SINGER sounds like Tool, but the BAND does not. They each have their own unique sound. That is like saying that Black Sabbath ripped off of Ozzy Osbourne. The singers sound the same (the only thing is that in this case, the singers ARE the same, but you get the point). So Maurice Alouf was wrong in saying that buying this Earshot CD would make you NOT a true Tool fan. Go buy both bands' CDs.

That's it, I'm sick of this bickering...
There's the big debate, summed up into one word. TOOL. Honestly, I can see both sides of it. Some reviewers are correct in saying that things like Earshot's lyrics are way off the high-water mark set by my favorite band, but anyone who says they sound nothing like Tool should go listen again with an open mind. True, most of the songs are missing the melodic complexity that people have come to associate with Tool in recent years, but "Get Away" and "My Time" could have been lifted straight off of Opiate. I'm serious, folks, listen to them again. OK, this takes one back to a time when Tool was in a much more raw and unrefined state, but there was some serious musicianship even back then. Just as there is on parts of Letting Go. I'll admit, most of these tracks probably won't turn out to be your favorite, but there are rare occasions when nothing else will do. Definitely a solid debut CD with a few standouts. Oh, and will you people PLEASE stop going on about "Not Afraid"? It is most certainly one of the WORST songs on this album, both musically and in its ability to hold one's attention. Try the two tracks I mentioned earlier, as well as "Ordinary Girl" and "This World". OK, "Misery" is pretty cool, too.
