Customer Reviews
Some TRACK LISTINGS would have been nice....
How many tracks are there? What musical genre is it? Help us out a bit here. I can't help but wonder why you are not giving potential customers some info regarding what is on this disc. I LOVE the Moody Blues, but have virtually no info about the stuff the band members did as solo artists. Also, you don't mention whether or not this is a boot-leg. Wasn't THRESHOLD the label all of the band members used after they started their own label? Some good old-fashioned honesty --- you know - "Truth in Advertising" --- would be a good thing. .

Great album
This is the only 'Moodies solo' I have 'cause they're hard finds their solo albums. This is a really great album. Pity 'Paradise Ballroom' is not listed here. If I find a copy you wont be able to read my review :-( !!

As for this album, Adrian Gurvitz, the lead singer and main songwriter, has a voice that might not sound out of place in 'The Band', kind of throaty and Southern. The music has an Americana flavour, reflected in songs like 'Shotgun' and the gospel flavoured 'Gew Janna Woman'. But Graeme Edge IS there and the album also has a strong psychedelic flavour. There is also a fair bit of instrumental music that's very, very good. There's some pretty good guitar tones.

Highlights to me were the first four songs (side one of the vinyl record), The Tunnel and Shotgun. The only song I didn't like was the last song because it's really depressing and has a sense of 'no hope' but the others are very good songs indeed. Pity it's hard to get, because it's an album of high quality.

For those who feel blue and moody
It bursts with intensity and features much musical variety. This is quite a fine album, released at a time when ace guitarist/songwriter/vocalist Adrian Gurvitz had reached his peak. From "Bareback Rider" to "Something We'd Like to Say" (written by Graeme Edge) each song makes a strong, punchy point. "The Tunnel" is a typically intense Gurvitz instrumental (see the instrumentals on the first Three Man Army album). Graeme's songs hold their own with Adrian's, an encouraging sign. "Shotgun on the 4. 42" is an instantly memorable western saga, with some stunning unison work on acoustic and electric guitars.
Contrary to what some say, "Paradise Ballroom", the followup to "Muddy," is quite a worthy album. There's some disco, but it's pretty palatable. "Human" is a fine ballad and "Caroline," the closer, is an all-out finale of the kind Adrian did so well. "Ballroom" proved to be his last truly memorable album.
