All I had were a few old 45s (singles) in my record collection. What a great 2-CD set! I bought this before I had any ELO CDs. I always enjoyed those, so I figured it was time to explore ELO's catalog. A greatest hits package is always a good way to get started.

I am glad I did! ELO rocks! There isn't a dull song on this collection! These songs always bring a smile to my face. They are fun, upbeat, and sound great. ELO's blending of strings and classic rock stands the test of time. I have since moved on to more of their albums and compilations, and of course some great stuff is missing from this collection. However, this set got me going into ELO, so it's a 5-star set all the way!

Here are my ratings for each song on this set.

12. Telephone Line ****1/2

2. Sweet Talkin' Woman *****
3. Mr. Blue Sky *****

This is a great set to get familiar with ELO, or simply to complete your collection. When I first bought it, it stayed in my car CD player for over a month. Highly recommended!

Great Album
If you like ELO, you'll love this album. Recieved in great condition. Fantastic overall experience.

Most of the good stuff, but hardly all
Still, this is a great intro to the band's various periods. All of the big singles are here, but the real ELO highlights to my ears are the deeper cuts on New World Record and Out Of The Blue---Big Wheels, Shangri La and so on. This is lusciously produced, extremely melodic pop music when it's good, as most of these tracks are, well, more than half.
I'd rather have the above two albums, but this fills most of the other gaps.
ELO will get their due one day as one of the most melodic and aurally pleasing of all the 70s bands. It's pop but it's masterful pop, and with many moments worthy of Lynne's Beatle obsession. But who better to obsess over?.

Great Collection but Where's Fire on High?
I like their first 6 albums (all represented on disc 1) the best when they had a little darker sound than the later pure pop sound. I like ELO alot and this is a good compilation for me. The gritty cellos on "10538 Overture" are imo as good a merging of classical and rock instruments one could ask for. And can you have a better opening guitar riff than in "Do Ya?" And what about the pure joy of "Rockaria?" This song is like sneaking a chocolate bar just before going to weight watchers. It's silly, with an opera singer no less, yet completely fun to listen to - a pure escape.

I wish they would have included a few more of their early songs on disc 1. At 59 minutes there was easily room for killer songs like "Fire On High" from 1975's Face the Music, or "Mister Kingdom" or "Illusions in G Major" from 1974's Eldorado. But, hey, there are so many good songs on this set that I really can't complain. Great stuff. I'd give it 5 stars if they would have included "Fire On High. " .

Groovy...
The CD's is a collection of ELO's best songs and I listen to it all the time. Love the music.
