Only time Tells All
i was one of the last groups, with a present in hand and a face that said, "I really don't know about this. Electric Six, one of Metropolis Records new installations, is a band that you will either love, hate, or that will grow on you with time. " After i listened to the album for a while and heard some other songs like "i buy the drugs," i found that I was humming along with the album. It was then and there that i knew that the band had finally managed to hook another listener.

One thing about the band that I've heard mixed commentary on are the vocals. To see what you think of them, listen to clips of the band and see what you think of them. After doing that, listen to them three more time and see if you like them more, less, or about the same. I say this because the album here - as well as other albums - have great beats, some funny lyrics that mix with a serious song or two, and a song that is different considering all of the look-alike bands that have popped up these days. i think that is one of the things that drew me in: energy mixed with oddity, masking something flowing upstream for a change. I have a lot of friends that go both ways with the band, however, and feel i need to mention that before saying that I think you should buy it.

If you want something a bit on the different side, then this could be something you should take home to (insert person here). It has a bit of glam, a bit of slam, and a bit of wham all rolled into one. It also has a lead that seems to find humor all over the place, and sometimes silly songs or weird mixes are just what the audio doctor ordered. In a house of cards that are built around racing rats, it is sometimes fun to come home and say that you just want a little bit of difference in you playpen. I know I finally found my place here, and suggest others try it out and see if they are running that same race.

Electric Six Does It Again!
What the painting has to do with album is as big a mystery as the meaning to some of Dick Valentine's tricky lyrics. I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts Me From Being The Master is Electric Six's fourth album and also one of their best! This is right up there with their classic debut Fire as one of the most awesome fun albums to listen to!

The album's name is taken from a painting. Much like the lyrics the choice of the title may seem random, but it is a kind of deliberate randomness that makes Electric Six the fun band they are!

This album signified a big step for Electric Six. With the previous album, Switzerland, they started to branch out into new territory and I for one was happy to see this progression. With this album they enter yet another phase of their career with horns and synthesizers becoming much more prominent throughout the songs. This time, we do however get at least one song with Dance in the title, which is a staple of Electric Six which was bucked for the previous album.

This is to me the most musically advanced of all the Electric Six albums. The aforementioned horns and synthesizers really add a whole new scope to their songs. The guitar is as rocking as ever and the lyrics are always spot on in the twisty, funny, and insightful way that only Dick Valentine could bring to the table.

The song highlights here are the opener It's Showtime!, Down At Mcdonnelzz, and Dance Pattern (It has dance in the title so of course it is!)

Some lyrical highlights are:

"Get out on the floor!
Do the things to make 'em adore ya
Show them why you were born
And put a little mustard on it" from It's Showtime!

"Did I make a mistake?
When I turned it on?
Was my dance pattern right?
Was my dance pattern wrong?

Did I make a mistake?
When I sang a song?
Were my vox too sexy?
Were my vox too strong?" From Dance Pattern

"Every mutiny
Begins with the cooks
Every queen cheats on the king with the rooks
Every nuclear war begins with two
Dirty looks" From Dirty Looks.

Play it LOUD!!
At first I was curious and now I'm hooked. I first heard The Electric Six on a college radio station. This album sounds better LOUD and what makes it even better is that the music is fun and the band sounds like they are having a really good time performing it. I'm looking forward to receiving the other albums soon. I had a hard time getting past the 1st three tracks because I had to keep going back to listen again. Love it!!.

Big Mac Attack
Ok. . . McD is one cool tune! Made me buy the CD. . . . . only to find out the rest of it is just as good! Trust me when I say you NEED this CD. Each time I listen to this CD I feel new. . . but in an old way. . . . . Listen to the CD and you'll get it. . . . . . . E6 has Super Sized it w/ this one.

An Absolute Crime...
. . that "Down at McDonaldz" isn't a chart-busting hit song. An absolute. . . freaking. . . crime.

This is one of the best bands recording today, with a fantastic body of work this decade. They're too sophisticated for their time, and I say that without any irony. They have their fingers on the pulse of everything that is B. S. in our culture today, and frame it so perfectly.
