Customer Reviews
Actually, it IS an Oingo Boingo record
So they used a loophole and came out with a "solo" Danny Elfman album. Oingo Boingo, tired of their label, IRS, wanted to go to MCA, but they were contractually obligated to do any new "Oingo Boingo" albums on IRS. This was pretty thinly veiled and IRS cut them loose and they signed with MCA. But as much as it got them free, this really is the "forgotten" Oingo Boingo album since it was seen as a Danny Elfman side project.

As Oingo Boingo was compiled into greatest hits, a few of these tracks were included because everyone understood that these weren't really solo. "Gratitude" is a classic Oingo Boingo track and "Only Makes Me Laugh" was later redone on Boingo Alive.

So if you don't have it and are an Oingo Boingo fan, what are you waiting for??? I am particularly fond of "Cool City", and the version of "Only Makes Me Laugh" is interesting to hear after all the years of Boingo Alive.

So Lo
It isn't too different from original Boingo. One of the better solo albums I have heard.

The Real 4th Album from Oingo Boingo
Because let's face it, all the musicians are there, as are the arrangements by Bartek, and there's Danny's usual intense blend of self introspection filtered through the carnival-gone-wrong prism that marked nearly every song in Oingo Boingo's superb career as trail blazers of 80's new wave. Danny Elfman always wanted to see his name in lights, hence the mislabeling of this nearly forgotten album by the crew that brought you the first three Oingo Boingo albums. I won't go into a song by song breakdown of this record, because if you love early Oingo Boingo, there's simply no quibbling over this music. Just buy it, you won't be sorry. If I were forced to find fault with it, however, then I would point to its current lack of noteriety. It's unfortunate that Elfman chose to temporarily scuttle Oingo Boingo's growing fame upon the rocks of his lesser known name in 1984, because who knows, maybe Dead Man's Party would have been so much bigger when it was released in 1985. Oh, well. That's a Monday morning disc-jockey for you.
