Mikel at his best!
This is a return to the beautiful acoustic arrangements in which he shines his brightest! The opener, "rara vez" is a gorgeous arrangement and "california" and "proxima estacion" are other standouts. Mikel's 4rth solo album is very comparable to Duncan Dhu (best spanish pop/rock band ever). Really the whole record is great in that it features that dream-like soundscape that are unique to Mikel's past solo work, and combines the warm, campy acoustic beauty of Duncan Dhu.

POP HEAVEN
His first solo album 'Naufragios' was well written and performed, but Erentxun never seemed to get proper support from the studio hotshots assembled to back him. I've liked what I've heard in the past from Duncan Dhu, Erentxun's old band, and his solo career has continued in the wounded-romantic vein. On 'Te Dejas Ver', though, he's got a group that makes magic of his compositions. Thank Fred Maher, whose production here is just as organic and alert as on Matthew Sweet's masterful 'Girlfriend'. The sound here is shimmering melodic glory, and the CD as a whole is a ravishing Anglophile pop gem. I know he's always idolized Morrissey, but I can't help but hear '66-vintage George Harrison here. That is nothing to be ashamed of!

The production isn't the only thing that shines here. It doesn't hurt that Erentxun himself offers sterling performances of his excellent recent compositions: even the odd lightweight (like "Fácil") is quite accomplished, and the best of these, "Flor de Piel", is undeniably celestial. For those of us who know Spanish, his lyrics paint pictures of an artist steeped in melancholy but still retaining an eccentric rocker's edge.

His cronies don't exactly add anything to the project: Matthew Sweet singing the 'Jeopardy' theme on 'Proxima Estación' is amusing, but I could do without Lloyd Cole's silly soliloquy on "Silencio".
