Melissa Rocks The 17 tracks on the audio CD are worth the price alone because there is not one bad or weak song. Regardless if you are a fan or unfamiliar with Melissa's previous albums, this is worth buying especially with the enclosed DVD. Truly a collection of hits unlike some greatest hits albums by less talented artists. Melissa pours her heart and soul into every song. She rocks as hard as Neil Young.
I cannot compare songs because in my opinion all are great and you will have to make your own judgements. However, I really like "Piece of My Heart" which was previously done to great success by Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company.
This "Deluxe Edition" version is more than worthy as a gift to both male and female friends. Most people will love it except those into rap, hair bands, heavy metal or bubblegum music. This album rocks without the pyrotechnics of bands like Metallica or the screaming of Steven Tyler with Aerosmith.
Many thanks to Melissa for this superlative collection and to Island Def Jam for releasing the deluxe edition when they could have taken the low road. Occassionally, the big record companies do something great and this is one great release. .
Melissa's Best Songs!
A must have for all Melissa's fans. For the Melissa Etheridge fan, this is the ultimate collection since it contains all of Melissa's hits from her past albums. . . even the sequence of the songs is greatly planned so that you feel that you are at a concert, letting Melissa's performance aspire you!.
Melissa Etheridge - An American Treasure
Her articulate and intimate explanation on the DVD of the songs she chose as her "greatest hits" portrays her passion for not only music, but humanity as well. Melissa continues to evolve as an American icon of music as she allows her spirit to soar now that she has been embraced in the strong yet tender arms of her soul mate, has overcome breast cancer, and has allowed herself to look back at her illustrious career. Her profound need to communicate with each of us enables her songs to resonate - both her music and her lyrics - because they are honest, well crafted and sincere.
Melissa Etheridge is an American treasure. I hope we will be blessed with her insight, joy, creative genius and skill for many years to come. The wonderful combination of music, videos and interviews with Melissa will bring you back to this CD and DVD many many times.
I hope Melissa will consider naming her next CD "Thrive",. . . because I truly believe she will personally "thrive" now that she has heard the "voice" of her soul.
Rarities on DVD - Worth The Extra Money
She includes the Music Videos from back in the day. I am THRILLED that ME included Rarities on the DVD. . . Similar Features, 1989 and Like the Way I do, 88. A pre blonde Melissa really brought me back to the first time I saw her live. There is also some live videos from 90 - 00.

Great Compilation, First Time Video Release
Sorry, Sheryl. There are plenty of women in music finally getting recognized for how great they are, and in my opinion, Melissa is the best of the best.
Yeah, I said it. (Sheryl lovers will enjoy saying my review didn't help, but like I care. )
Well, ok, to the product. This is the only place you can find a collection of her videos. She's never released them on VHS or DVD, so this is only place you can get them. She finally put out two live concerts over the past few years, but the videos are something the fans have been wanting for a long time, and I love that they are included with the deluxe set, rather than a stand alone DVD.
If you aren't familiar with her earlier work, I won't be able to explain to you how great it is in a review. "Like The Way I Do," the single that launched her career with a live performance at the Grammy's is worth the price alone. The live version is actually on a collection of "Grammy's Greatest Moments" on CD, it was that good.
Of course, I believe she keeps on getting better, so I was a bit disappointed that not many songs from Breakdown or Skin were included on the CD. Melissa herself has said that Breakdown was an album that was kind of all over the place, and that's why people didn't really react to it that well, but I have to disagree. My life is often all over the place, and that is my favorite album, so I'm bummed about that. Again, I also liked Skin a lot, and I thought The Different should have been on here.
Of course, we have new material on here, too. Her covers of Tom Petty's Refugee and Janis' 'Piece of My Heart' are great. I think the whole world saw her other greatest Grammy performance just recently, where she preformed with Joss Stone (poor chick, although she was very good, I felt sorry for her because she was just totally overshadowed) so of course we had to have a version on here. (And hey Melissa, should you ever read this, a big Thank You. My father got a great boost to his spirits from that performance. He was diagnosed with a different form of cancer soon before that, and he rattled on excitedly about how cool he thought it was and wanted hear all of your stuff from my collection. Pretty neat, I thought. )
Considering the above, the last of the new songs, This Is Not Goodbye and I Run For Life were a bit difficult to listen to without crying, but I'm greatful for them nonetheless.
Again, a great hearty thanks to Melissa for an amazing catalog of great music, and inspiration to boot. .
