Great Could do without a couple of the "political" hysterics, but most of the music is just great. Great music from Melissa.
Wonderfully Powerful Change
It is now one of my favorite records that she has made. Melissa Etheridge has always been a singer I have liked, her powerful voice and songwriting stand ut in music, and on "The awakening" she takes it to a different place as the themes and ideals touched on throughout her career to various degrees come together in a somehwat darker than her normal fare to create a autobiography. If you are a casual fan it is a little less "listening friendly" on first listen compared to some of her work which grab you, at least initially, quicker, but after a few listens the music on this fully breaks through and can be appreciated.
Surprise ... she's even better
I've always considered her to be well above average, but perhaps not just absolutely fabulous. I've never been a rabid fan of Melissa Etheridge, even though I own four of her albums. After listening to this album once I've changed my mind. I think she's attained true greatness, and I believe this album might be her best overall. When other successful artists often come through with consistently good material, she comes out with even better material. Seems to me that's a rare occurrence. I'm truly impressed, and I'm not that easily impressed (my favorite band is Led Zeppelin, and yes, I saw them live along with a lot of other legends from the period). This one will likely earn a permanent folder on my MP3 player.
Blown Away By This Album
It is a rock album with a message. I listened to this album and fell in love with it and the message of the songs. "Kingdom of Heaven" is so today, and speaks about how a persons belief will drive them to do things. Speaks about love in all of us. This whole album blew me away. I play it frequently.
Quite Simply a Masterpiece
There is not a weak song on the entire cd. I bought this cd about a month ago and I can't stop listening to it. The Kingdom of Heaven and Imagine That immediately blew me away. I've Loved You Before gives me goosebumps. California is a gem. I could go on and on but I want to listen to the cd again.
