Falling on my head like a new emotion
"Here Comes The Rain Again" and "Right By Your Side" were warm and catchy, where those first singles probably would have not been called "warm. "Touch" was the album where Dave and Annie proved they had more to them than a one hit wonder-land. " They also broadened the sound, giving Annie Lennox lots of room to show off her incredible and growing stylistic range. There was electronic samba ("Right By Your Side") a near hypnotic hymn of "No Fear No Pain" or the frantic dance rhythm of "The First Cut. "

Next to Be Yourself Tonight, this is my favorite Eurythmics album. The remaster is pretty sharp, although the bonus cuts are pretty inconsequential. The take on Bowie's "Fame" is pretty cool, though, and the acoustic version of "Who's That Girl" is the best of the bunch. What would have made this great would have been the 12-inch mixes (and they could have bumped "ABC" for any other cut). Still super with great work yet to come, "Touch" made certain that Dave and Annie would remain stars. .


The Crest of The New Wave
The Eurythmics went on to conquer other territories, and Annie Lennox still has a fabulous solo career, but this will always be their crowning achievement, IMO. This album was the high point, I would even say the apotheosis, of 80's New Wave music. As all great recording artists do, they took their own special peculiarities and applied them to contemporary pop, thus creating something new. The sound on this remastered CD is magnificent. However, I can't say the same for all of the bonus tracks. Out of the 7, only 2 are interesting to me: "ABC (Freeform)", in which the alphabet is recited in echo-laden French over electronic music, and their very English-accented cover of Bowie's "Fame". The others, quickly: 11 is more spoken nonsense over electronic music; 12 is the instrumental track of "Regrets", no vocal; 13 is another version of "Paint A Rumour", with no significant difference that I can discern; and 14 & 15 are live, acoustic versions of "Who's That Girl" and "Here Comes The Rain Again". But that's all lagniappe. The meat is in the original 9 tracks (except "Right By Your Side", which I detest). Enjoy and get buzzed. When you hear Annie sing "I got a razor-blade smile" in "Regrets", imagine her grinning maliciously at you with sharpened teeth. It works for me.

And this CD has some extra treats. One of the best Eurthmic's albums ever. . . Makes me want to dye my hair orange. . . to match my razor blade smile.

Touch by Eurythmics
It's the same music as the first. My original was destroyed and this replaced it. Only thing I wish it had were the words to the songs. .
