so much missing it's not even funny. While many have pointed out that 1984 is missing, what's also missing are crucial bonus tracks. I find it hard to believe so many reviewers are calling this a complete set. Eurythmics were active during the height of the 80s 12" remix--so where are all those 12" versions that have never made it to CD? Not to mention, the "Touch Dance" album, which was basically like a full 12" collection in itself and could easily have been released as part of a 2-disc edition of Touch.
Sweet Dreams CD--why isn't the 12" version of Sweet Dreams included??? If you want it, you have to get the "Greatest Hits" CD, which, for some reason, includes the 12" version.
Touch--The full length version of Here Comes the Rain Again used on the 12" is only a matter of about 20 seconds longer than the album version. It should have been used on here. AND, how could they not, at last, give us the 12" version of Who's That Girl on CD??? Not to mention the mega long 12" version of Right by Your Side (even though I don't like this song).
1984--Well, the soundtrack isn't even included, so there's no way the 12" version of 1984 (Sexcrime) could have been a bonus track, although it could have been a bonus track on one of the other albums since it was one of their pop single releases.
Be Yourself Tonight--Does include a couple of 12" mixes at last. But misses the rare 12" of There Must Be An Angel, and while it has the ET mix of Would I Lie to You, it fails to include the "extended version" that was on the b-side of the original 12".
Revenge--obviously, they knew they could include 12" versions, because here, you get a load of them!
Savage--their perfect return to their synthesized roots misses the 12" mixes of You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart and Beethoven. Bummer.
We Too Are One--Misses the dance mix of Revival and remix of My My Baby's Gonna Cry.
Peace--if they had to 'remaster' this CD so soon after its original release and force us to buy it in this boxed set, then the full Rauhofer and Thunderpuss mixes of 17 Again SHOULD have been on here considering they were never released commercially.
Sorry, but considering it took more than 2 years for this collection to be released, they had PLENTY of time to realize that diehard fans who buy a boxed set expect pretty much EVERYTHING a band has had to offer during the course of their career. That's simply not what you get here.
Great Music in an Ideal Package
Given the strength of Annie Lennox's solo work, I felt it was about time I explored the career of her old band more fully. Eurythmics are best remembered as a singles band, and I was quite content for years with their Greatest Hits cd. A couple years later, I'm still listening to these albums on a regular basis.
Unlike traditional box sets, this is simply the re-issued discs of all the Eurythmics studio albums. Each cd, along with its packaging, can be purchased separately, but every one of these albums is unique and completely worth owning. Every album is packed with bonus tracks, most of which are pretty forgettable, but they do highlight the strengths of the albums themselves - not because they're so bad in comparison, but because the different mixes show how perfect the original productions were.
One cd is conspicuously absent, the soundtrack to the movie 1984. Having heard a few of the songs off that album, though, I must say I can't blame them for expunging that from the record. Should completists want to seek it out, though, it can be purchased on its own without there being that pesky overlap that so often occurs when you have to buy a boxed set just to get a few previously unreleased songs. That's one thing that's so great about this collection: it's all here. The whole album, plus the previously unreleased songs.
The cds themselves sound fantastic, and the packaging for each disc is well done. The box that contains them is merely a formality. Overall, this is a great value on buying (nearly) the entire career of one of the best bands of the 80s or any decade.
Top $$ for Empty Box
Classic bait and switch here, folks. !!!!WARNING!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Don't be suckered in like I was by the marketing hype and promise of a box set. The exact same CDs in the exact same packaging contained in this "box set" are sold separately and cheaper. Not to mention what other reviewers have pointed out and that it DOES NOT contain the soundtrack to 1984, but, stupidly contains their "comeback" CD, Peace which belongs nowhere near their other recordings during the real life span of the band. Having Peace included is as absurd as if they included The Tourists recordings and both Dave and Annie's solo works as well. Just stupid. 1984 IS the recording that is firmly planted during the active years of Eurythmics as a band and should have been included hands down. Finally, I really can't believe the gall of the record company to market and package a "box set" that doesn't actually contain ANYTHING extra from the individual releases other than an empty cardboard box. No special booklet, no bonus CD or DVD, no nothing. Annie and Dave deserved better.
ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE FOR EURYTMICS FANS
The sound quality is astounding. This has got to be the most comprehensive collection of Eurtyhmics songs to date. And the songs that I've never heard before. WOW. If you like Eurythmics, this is a MUST HAVE.
Watch out for the price!!!
97. The price for each remastered CD included on this box is now $9. . . there are 8CDs in the box. . . so the price must be less than $80. . . but. . . NO!!! it's $123!!!! Buying them separately you'll save more than $43!!! Nonsense!!!
I give it 4 star for the content, but obviously 0 stars for the price!!!.
