Oops... 2 Good Time for a Bad Attitude is a big let down for me. Everclear's Vol. I bought it the day it came out because I'm a big Everclear fan, but after all this time, it's my least favorite Everclear album. There is one standout track, Good Witch of the North. This was supposed to be a big rock album, so it's ironic that the best song on here is an acoustic love song. Overwhelming is a good song, but Art Alexakis already recorded it as a solo song, so it's not too exciting here. It's old news by now. Misery Whip is probably the best rock song. The riffs are great and it rocks! It's a song about rough sex, which is a little too much for me, so maybe I don't like the song that much, but it's a good song. Song from an American Movie pt. 2 had the potential to be one of Everclear's best songs, but I don't think it comes close. Many fans love this song, but I don't. I think the melody is extremely boring. You can't really have fun singing along to it. And the words are just ok. The song is about life, and moving on from a divorce and being with your family, which is a great subject, but sometimes the words don't make sense to me. It seems a little forced. The rest of the record is either mediocre (When it All Goes Wrong Again, Rock Star) or very bad (Babytalk, All [messed] Up). Everclear labeled this as a rock album and some people loved it as a rock album, claiming Vol 1 Learning How to Smile was too poppy, but I think they've been fooled. Although Everclear is a rock band, rock is not what Everclear has always been about. Good songs is what Everclear has been about, and this album is lacking that. When you substitute rock for good songs, it doesn't really work, and that's what happened here. Although I love this band, I do not love this album. If you're looking for some Everclear music that rocks, go with "Sparkle and Fade" or "World of Noise," because those albums are made up of great songs.
It picks up where Vol. 1 left off: Volume 1 was really optimistic but this album is much more pi**ed off. But it really does take you on a journey. It opens with single When It All Goes Wrong Again, which really sets the tone for the whole album with heavy guitars and drums and Art's distinctive voice getting angry in a catchy sort of way. Slide is the next track. It wasn't one of my favorites when I downloaded it, but I like it more now. Its also catchy and musically similar to the first track. Babytalk, however, is very different. It is groove-based and journeys into the kinda rock-rap genre, which Art then turns around and sort of derides in Rock Star, which is about innocent dreams of fame. Short Blonde Hair then shows where it went wrong. Its a great song, beautiful and typically Everclear in sound. Its lyrically about how people don't like him any more and think he's just 'That stupid guy with the short blonde hair' but how he doesn't care. The next track, Misery Whip, is a song about taking out anger, and taking it out on yourself. Its not my favorite track, but its quite good. The next song, Out Of My Depth, is related to the pressures of fame. It, and the next track, Good Witch Of The North, are softer ballads. Next we have Halloween Americana, a cool instrumental reminiscent of El Distorto De Melodica. Next is All F. . . Up, which is the reason for the Parental Advisory label. It is really heavy fast rock. Next is one of the best tracks, the gorgeous ballad Overwhelming, which is about his ex-wife and how she has treated him, like her 'pathetic little loser, someone she can ignore' and how he's 'not gonna let her overwhelme' him any more. The final track is what Song From An American Movie Pt. 1 should sound like, its the same song, except in a way better arrangement. It is a beautiful songs which says things simply but wonderfully and can make me cry. Songs From An American Movie Volume 1 was one of the most classic pop albums ever. Songs From An American Movie Volume 2 now stands as one of the most classic rock albums ever.
