the exies - inertia (3 1/2 stars) I decided to pick up this record because I wanted to see how their sound had progressed. I actually got into the exies via "head for the door", which IMO is a better record. well, it's not really that big a change to tell the truth. most of the songs carry the familar vocals and melodies that made HFTD so good. however, the tone of this album is much more pop than that of "door", so that's the only reason I'm marking it 3 1/2 instead of 4 or 5. the songs are just too light-hearted, and the exies tend to work better with a post-grunge dark angle. highlight tracks would have to be "inertia" and "my goddess", but pretty much all are listenable. on a side note, the album's production and mixing are nothing to write home about. some songs seem to come off louder than others, and the overall production is lacking in places. they could have given the album a cleaner, more polished sound, if you ask me. overall, if you're new to the exies, get "head for the door" first, and if you like what you hear, get "inertia" later on.
