MORE THAN WORDS?
with more rock and funk than one album should be able to hold. plenty of people bought this for the single"more than words" and were in for a shock. extreme's best by a long shot.


Keepin' up with the Joneses'...
The band had power ballads but nothing like the formula of the day. `Extreme II: Pornograffitti' was very different from much of what its detractors referred to as the hair metal scene of the late `80's early `90's. The album's biggest hit "More Than Words" was basically a duet between Nuno and Gary while "Hole Hearted" was all acoustic and folksy. The band could funk it up; witness "Get the Funk Out" (great bass line from Pat Badger) and "When I'm President". And for metal, `Porno' has several choice cuts including "Decadence Dance", "It's a Monster" and "Money". In short, Extreme did a little bit of everything just as they had on their debut but their focus was more epic the second go around. `Pornograffitti' made Boston's young guns a brief sensation in the metal scene. I remember a friend of mine raving about this band playing in clubs down in Providence and this odd little acoustic duet they would play that surprisingly wasn't on the debut LP. He was convinced that "More Than Words" was going to be huge if it ever got released and he was right! I don't like `II' better than `I', I think they are both extremely enjoyable and show a band with an embarrassment of riches showing off shamelessly. Sex does sell! .


CHUNKY!
Killer guitar sound and some of the fattest, chunkiest riffs around. wow, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt just rips on this disc. This CD should be in every rock guitarist's collection. The band is tight, the songs are cookin' and Nuno is leading the charge. If you like the funk rock guitar licks of Stevie Salas you'll dig this disc. If you can't rock to this then you just can't rock!

This is a MUST OWN ALBUM!!!!!
You won't be disappointed. When i stumbled across this album, I nearly dropped dead! This is, in my mind, the most unbelievable displays of musicianship.


All I Need Is Pornograffitti
When I cam across Extreme's Pronograffitti I was reminded what a great Hard Rock disk it was. I was going through all of my old CDs to rip the best music into my digital catalog. Of the 13 total tracks on the disk, 9 are pure Hard Rock. . . not Pop Rock or Hair Metal like their first disk and subsequent disks. . . but real Hard Rock.

There are 3 rock ballads, the most famous of which is their big hit "More Than Words". But, man, I'd have loved to see the look on the thousands of confused faces who bought this disk for "More Than Words", but popped in the disk only to be introduced to "Decadence Dance. " Decadence Dance starts out tame enough with a kind-of piano melody over the soft background sound of an approaching thunderstorm. Indeed. Thunderstorm approachith! Suddenly Nuno Bettoncourt's guitar cuts in, lightening strikes and Decadence Dance gives listeners an opening song that really represents what (most of) the rest the disk has instore.

This disk rocks. Nuno Bettoncourt rivals some of Eddie Van Halen's best work. Gary Cherone sings his heart out. And Paul Geary and Pat Badger keep you feet stomping and fists pumping.

This disk is why singer Gary Cherone got a shot with Van Halen (aside from the fact that he was a brother in law to someone in Van Halen's management. . . or something like that).
