big Extreme fan, but this album is AWFUL
of Nuno's guitar playing and Gary's singing) and I thouroughly enjoyed all their albums prior to this one, there are truly wonderful pieces on every one of them. I am a big fan of Extreme (esp. However, "Waiting for the Punchline" is very boring and rough-sounding, seems to be played by a bunch of kids in a not-so-well-equipped garage. I bought the album right after it came out (a long time ago), and sold it at a loss soon afterwards: the last drop was the last song, Unconditionally, which is probably the best song on the album, but so corny, protracted, and unpolished that I couldn't take it anymore. I do not recommend this album, thank goodness it is an old one (I have yet to listen to their latest album, Saudades de Rock, but I am not very motivated anymore, the samples I heard on Amazon remind me - quite unfortunately - of Waiting for the Punchline).

Loved the "Garage Band" sound....
I have read mixed reviews about this collection of Extreme's work, I myself loved it's raw and from the gut sound. . it was another side of the band that I loved seeing and experiencing. The guys sound a bit ticked off, but is appropriate as don't we all on some occasions. I think this cd is like a "growing up" stage, they learned some things about the world, and were not happy about it. Learning about and accepting cynicism is not a joyful lesson, but it is a needed one. I think this cd is a grand demonstration of the guys growing up, and like a teenager, fighting it every step of the way, but in the end, being better and more well rounded for it. I do like Mike Mangini as addition, Paul Geary, though a good drummer, never had a lot of passion in my opinion, Extreme now with Kevin Fig. . . is at their fighting weight. . . hope they stay around for many years. . . . love all sides of them!.

Extreme? Yes A Bit!
Everyone instantly hated it including me! He was told not to put it back on again, but he did when some of the whingers weren't around moan about it. I remember when one of my workmates brought this CD into the work back in 1995. I must say it grew on me. I was never an Extreme fan but I did go out and buy this album a few years later and to date is the only Extreme album I own.

I can understand why some fans wont like it, but I would say give it a chance, you may be pleasantly surprised. .

Going out with a bang..
This was my favorite Extreme CD . BY FAR! I am one of those goofballs who might listen to a song 10 times before I figure out what I like about it. On the 2nd listen to WFTPL . . I just sat back in my chair and listened to Nuno play. Where I was sitting made all the difference, because most of the guitar was coming out of my right speaker. During that 2nd listen, I was in guitar heaven. It was almost as if Nuno told everyone else in the band to go ahead and play, and "just let me jam on my own". I'm not saying the rest of the music is below par. . its not. . but DAMN . . from start to finish, this was one great listen.

To those who didnt like this CD. . its your loss. Although I would have liked to see Extreme hang around. . at least they did what most bands refuse to do. . go out with a bang, instead of a whimper. .

Gary and Nuno just learned that they are Hip Today.
It is obvious by the anger in Gary's voice, the hard hitting riffs from Nuno, and Paul's departure. Gary and Nuno just learned that they are Hip Today and gone tomorrow, and they truly are pissed. No more happy-go-lucky fun music; this is serious. This is the hardest sounding CD from Extreme. Enough of the Glam-rock, let get heavy. This may be Extreme's most under-rated CD, and maybe the best.
The punchline: 90's Grunge. Sorry, but thats the joke! The music industry turned their backs on real rock and Gary and Nuno knows it and realizes the truth.
This is a must-have CD. I promise, it will grow on you. .
