Punks Rock . The high school prom which I was too young to experience. . of course I'm from the class of 1968!.
A different point of view It's an audio book written and researched by Ben Graham, music by Amanda Thompson and read by Nancy McClean. As much as I love Fall Out Boy (and I love them a lot) this was a huge waste of money. There are 10 separate tracks on the cd for a total running time of just under 60 minutes. At the beginning of each track there is roughly a 20 to 30 second sound bite from a member of the band. These sound bites are simply random comments taken from various interviews completed in the past. It's obvious, with Mr. Graham's flattering writing, he enjoys Fall Out Boy. The story is told in a complementary style about an up and coming young band struggling to find their way. There just isn't anything fresh or new being expressed here. The message is totally uninspiring and lackluster. Even the most casual of fans would consider this material to be poorly rehashed, long outdated, and available just about any where on the internet. If you're handy with youtube, you'd be able to access the same level of interviews, no problem at all. For free.
I think the singular most offensive feature on this cd is the horrible background music. It actually hurts your ears and grates on your nerves. They use some sort of synthetic machine that does all the instruments at once. It's terribly reminiscent of bad 70's movies, and musically, it's about as far away from FOB as you could possibly get. To compound matters, the music never changes. It's the same simple riff on an endless loop. Over and over and over. Your best bet, and value for your money, would be to get FOB's latest cd, "Infinity on High". I can't recommend it highly enough. I've been buying albums and cd's for more years then I'd like to remember, and "Infinity" is on my all time top 5 list. It's that good. If you're looking for a dvd, there's a short one out called, "My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side to My Tongue" It's not as long as I would have liked, but at least you have a real sense of the band's participation, unlike the unauthorized Maximum Fall Out Boy. There's also a dvd called "Release the Bats" (featuring other bands in addition to FOB) but it's not for the faint of heart. It's a bit graphic with some of their gross out pranks, and their stunts would look right at home on a "Jack A**" movie set. But at least it's really them, being them, not some homogenized preprocessed sound bite mixed and re-released as if it came from them.
I hope this review helps!
