Fat Boy
Good CD but not great. Good CD but I expected more of his hits. Worth the purchase if you have no Fatboy CD's. If you do, skip this one.

Very good overview of Fatboy Slim's work, but...
Why Try Harder? is a very good compilation. . he has a lot of great singles, both on his own (Rockafella Skank, Praise You, Gangsta Trippin', Weapon Of Choice, etc. ) and in his several famous remixes of others' work (his remixes of Cornershop's Brimful of Asha and Groove Armada's I See You Baby were smash hits, especially in the UK). What's on here is pretty much anything anyone except the die-hard Fatboy Slim fan would recognize and want in a retrospective of his career.

But it's not a perfect compilation. Most of the songs are in radio edit form, which I don't mind because you can fit in more songs and I find that some of his songs get too repetitive in their extended form. So I generally prefer the radio versions of his songs. But the 18 songs only take up about 60 or so minutes - leaving room for some other singles and key album tracks which should have been included (the single Ya Mama, his remixes of Wildchild's Renegade Master and of Beastie Boys' Body Movin, and key album tracks Michael Jackson and Put It Back Together quickly come to mind).

I also wish they had the four minute version of Demons which is used in the video rather than the three minute radio edit, which has too short of an intro and feels cut off at the end (I feel that the shortened version takes something away from the mood of the song). Bottom line is that there was room to include at least some of these songs, but for whatever they chose not to. This is a mistake. . . all of these songs are great songs which the casual fan should be exposed to.

Again, what's on here is fantastic. I especially love the new song, That Old Pair of Jeans, which has a great beat and a trippy feel which I really like. It's just that it could have been even more complete and given you chance to see the whole picture of Fatboy Slim's career.

.

Fatboy Slim Fans Should Try
This is a good way to find some of his best songs without spending too much money. I love The Greatest Hits of Fatboy Slim although I wish the songs were strung together. I am happy with the songs included but he could have jazzed it up a little for his true fans.

If you want just one Fatboy Slim CD, this is it
Fatboy's fresh approaches and celebration of fun-ness and absurdity are a great way to lighten any day. An excellent, fun collection that's great to listen to randomly (or shuffled).

Perverse Walken Wonderful
I wish the whole album were more twisted, like the fantastic Walken video for the unique and inspired "Weapon of Choice. What would happen if Fatboy Slim and Ruby Ann Boxcar met up in a dark alley? This album, a child of twisted imagination. " There are fun tracks here, like "Praise You" and "Slash-Dot-Dash," etc. , but I'm tending to prefer more bass, deeper and more organic, less processed sounds. Fatboy Slim is just one of the best at this genre.
