definitely the lest painful way to explore the early lips
This album is definitely the best way to experience the early flaming lips as their full-length albums from the early career are a bit on the rough side. . THe liner notes are also great, and basically reiterate what I just wrote. .

Early Lips remind me of why I love them
This is a collection of older stuff, that I went back to, after falling in love with "Yoshimi", "Soft Bulletin", and "Clouds. . ".

It's definitely more raw, more unrefined, but I can still spot the parts of the Lips that made me a fan.

Highly recommended for any beginner to the Lips,(. . . ).

Early Greatest Hits Typically Idiosyncratic Flips
Early songs like Jesus Shooting Heroin and One Millionth Billionth. This is a rather bizarre collection, mixing a handful of the better songs of their early albums (Unconsciously Screamin', God Walks Among us Now) with live covers (such as a truly miserable take on LZ's Thank You-the bad band I was in in high school played it better) and various curiosities. . . hint at the conceptual and stylistic heights of originality the band would reach in the next decade, but there is throughout an amateurish quality to them most will find jarring. Flipsheads who already own most of the early albums will find little of interest, although Strychnine/Peace Love and Understanding, a sloppy, unholy alliance of the Sonics' and Elvis Costello songs, alone was worth the price of the CD for me. If you are going to sit down and listen to this one all the way through, be sure to alter your brain chemistry accordingly or you might get lost.

the title explains it all...
they were basically a psychadelic punk band, if thats possible? its taken a while but i do like most of this cd. if you're nervous about the earlier albums by the flaming lips, then this should give you an idea of what to expect. i wish it had more of "the flaming lips" ep, which is (in my opinion) the 2nd best pre-warners album they did. regardless, "bag full of thoughts" is here in all its acid rock/goth glory. "one million billionth of a millesecond on a sunday morning" is vaguely pink floyd-ish and not surprising since the lips are floyd fans. really, this is a good compilation of the early years and if you like what you hear, get the new ryko box sets, especially "the day they shot a hole in the jesus egg".

Amazing stuff
They cant seem to do wrong these days. Those crazy Flaming Lips. This album is much like Soft Bulletin, btu contains more of what you love the Lips for. . . noise with Wayne's wonderous voice.
