Excellent

One way is to take a step back, write some really good songs. How does a great musician follow an orchestral masterpiece,The Soft Bulletinand an album you need four stereos to play,Zaireeka. Then take what you have learned, apply it, but do so on a smaller scale. Make a fantastic rock and roll album. That is what the Flaming Lips have done here.

If not for Soft Bulletin, there would be nothing small scale about this album. The lips did not invent melodic pop, but they sure have updated it well. Robots is full of nice little accustic tracks, lovingly dipped in orchestrations, sound effects, wonderful melodies and vocal tracking. This is a wonderful "little" album, like the best pop, more complex and layered than you first realize.

I Hate This CD
One Shot is one of the best songs ever. I am a fan of the Flaming Lips. Halloween On The Barbary Coast, This Is No Godzilla Flick, Now Your Twenty Two, etc. . . are all favorites of mine. I'm not hear to name songs though. They have written some excellent songs and from every review I've read for this CD I was thrilled with anticipation. What a letdown. I think Do You Realize? is OK, but the rest was just so terrible it gave me sharp stabbing pains. Repitition and annoyance after annoyance. I wanted the Pink Robots to win so badly. I hate Yoshimi. I really hated him, but the music is so boring I just don't care anymore. What a terrible waste of a week. Painful.

No.... not a classic. not even good.

I've listened to plenty of experimental music and electronica, and after listening it through for the first time, I decided that it wasn't just boring, it was also annoying as hell. Listening to this album is like swallowing packet upon packet of Sweet'n'Low, it has the same texture and subtlety.

I've given it a couple more tries, just to come to the same conclusion.

You are better off listening to:
- Charlene
-Cheer-Accident
-Magnetic Fields
-Massive Attack
-Nobukazu Takemura
-Shugo Tokumaru
-hell, even Stars

Don't be like those schmucks who ignorantly defend Vida La Vita. Expand your horizons. Listening to good music makes you a happier person.

Best Album Since Sgt. Peppers
The creativity is beyond. . . and no George Martin. And, most of it doesn't hurt my ears. . . The less I say the better, just buy it.

Tender tweakings
All the organic electronica steering these proceedings seemed more forced initially than what the years have kindly bestowed- providing incisively produced, and of course heartfelt written, melodies that stick. With the exception of a few meandering segments in its latter half, Yoshimi remains the pinnacle of Lip's art-vs-commerce dichotomy. .
