Great 80s AlbumIf you want to go back in time to punk hair cuts, blue mascara, big earrings & shoulder pads, just play this CD & close your eyes. . (LOL!) Good stuff. "The more you live, the more you love. . . ".
Why this collection is crucial for Flock collectors
" But it ALSO has the 7" remix of "The More You Live The More You Love," which I've always felt is far superior to the LP version, because it's much more new wave sounding. For starters, it has the 9 minute 12" version of "Wishing. ALSO, note that the track listing has always been wrong on this disc, including on the CD insert itself. The final track on here is NOT The Story of A Young Heart--it is the FULL MOON REMIX of "The More You Live The More You Love," which was the B-side to the original 12". "The Story of A Young Heart" can be found on the Platinum and Gold Collection.
Image Isn't Everything, but Apparently It's Pretty Damn Close
Only, they wouldn't have been the Flock then, would they?
Check out "I Ran" but also "Nightmares", "Wishing", and "Space Age Love Song. If ol' Mike Score could have only ditched the seagull haircut and re-invented the look of the group, this band might have maintained the status which acts like the Police and U2 and Bowie have managed to maintain, and their claim to fame with younger people wouldn't be that Adam Sandler movie. " In my book, the Flock is a prime example of what can happen when you mix genius artistry with an inability to reinvent itself. But then again, that implies that an artist needs to sacrifice his or her integrity in their art to alter themeselves and land public success. Hm.
Either way, look forward to another project guys.
A great best of the Flock / unique music of the 80's
The music is vibrant and very sophisticated. The Flock of Seagulls were a groundbreaking band in their time. If your name is Earl and you drive a beatup pickup, you probably won't get it. The better known tracks like "I ran", "Space Age Love Song", "Wishing(If I had a Photgraph of You)" are included, but the last track "The Story of a Young Heart" that make this disk so good. This track is an excecise in ambiance and rythm that is all but lost in todays modern music. In sumary the Flock of Seagulls made some great music, however you either get it or you don't.
Relatively excellent!
" What a pleasant surprise it was to then find *6* great tracks on this CD. I purchased this CD when it first came out, solely for "Space Age Love Song. That's an amazing feat, considering that *most* albums have no more than two good tracks and the rest is "filler. " I loved the four songs that were released as singles, plus the last two songs on the album. These guys know how to craft a song-- every single one is "music" rather than "noise". The best track, I thought, was the 12th/last one. I totally dig it!!!!! Awesome work, guys!!!! This is a band that transcends the 1990s because of its quality.
